THE UNPROFITABLE PROFIT: GAINS THAT BANKRUPT THE SOUL PART 12: FINAL LAP: THE PROFITABLE LIFE — WHEN THE SOUL IS PRESERVED AND REWARDED
Song of Songs 2:17
“Until the day breathes and the shadows flee, turn, my beloved, be like a gazelle or a young stag on cleft mountains.”
Ama had grown from a distant heart to a thriving soul. She heard the Beloved's voice, arose from her wall of shame, walked into a new season, bloomed in intimacy, bore fruit, guarded her vineyard, and came to a place of confident belonging: “My Beloved is mine, and I am His.” But now—life gets quiet again. Shadows creep in. And she must learn to love and trust even when the light dims.
📜 Verse Breakdown and Imagery
This final verse in the chapter takes a subtle, unexpected turn. The imagery changes:
“Until the day breathes…” – This speaks of dawn or a new unfolding season. It hints at a transition: something is ending, or a wait is beginning.
“And the shadows flee” – Shadows symbolize uncertainty, distance, or fear. The Beloved may not be as visibly present now, but the relationship is secure.
“Turn, my beloved…” – She is not pushing Him away. This is more like saying, “I know You must go for now—but I trust You’ll return.”
“Be like a gazelle… on cleft mountains” – She calls Him to move with the same strength and grace as before. The love remains—even if the expression temporarily shifts.
This verse reminds us that in every spiritual journey, even seasons of joy can make room for pauses, trials, or silence. But love doesn’t vanish—it waits in faith.
🕊️ Ama’s Story: “The Pause”
One evening, Ama sat to pray but felt… nothing. No emotion. No whispers. No Scripture popping up in her heart.
She sighed.
Was something wrong?
But then she remembered the verse she had once read:
“Until the day breathes and the shadows flee…”
Tears welled in her eyes—not because she felt abandoned, but because she understood:
this was part of the rhythm.
God wasn’t gone. He was still hers. But like the sun hides behind clouds—He was present, even if unseen.
So Ama whispered,
“Turn, my Beloved… but only until the day breathes again.”
She closed her eyes and rested—not in feelings, but in faith.
She knew He would return in full light again.
And until then, her love would remain.
💭 Reflection
Have you experienced a “shadow” season—even after closeness with God?
Can you still trust the Beloved when His voice is quiet?
Do you believe that true love is patient, anchored, and doesn’t panic in the pause?
📣 Final Call to Action
📍Declare this over your current or future shadow season:
“I will not fear the pause—because love remains.”
Let that be your anchor until the next breath of dawn.
🙏🏽 Prayer
Jesus, even when I can’t feel You like before, I still trust You. Teach me to wait with faith, to love in silence, and to believe that You will return in light and glory. I rest in Your rhythm, not just in my emotions. Amen.
