THE UNPROFITABLE PROFIT: GAINS THAT BANKRUPT THE SOUL PART 12: FINAL LAP: THE PROFITABLE LIFE — WHEN THE SOUL IS PRESERVED AND REWARDED
Song of Songs 2:15
“O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the hiding places on the mountainside, show me your face, let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely.”
As Ama bloomed into fruitfulness and joy, her life began to emit fragrance and peace. But there was still a part of her that held back—an inner room she hadn’t opened yet. She trusted the Beloved, yes, but not completely. And He knew it. This next verse isn’t a rebuke—it’s a tender call into vulnerability.
📜 Verse Breakdown and Imagery
This verse is one of the most intimate and emotionally vulnerable in the chapter:
“O my dove…” – The Beloved calls her a dove, a creature known for purity, loyalty, and gentleness. But doves also hide when afraid. He acknowledges her beauty—even in hiding.
“In the clefts of the rock, in the hiding places…” – These are symbolic of the deep, secret places in our soul—places where we hide hurts, fears, regrets, or even love we’re afraid to show.
“Show me your face, let me hear your voice…” – He wants not just her service, obedience, or fruit—He wants her presence, her voice, her expression. He longs for closeness, not just commitment.
“Your voice is sweet, your face is lovely.” – He affirms her even before she shows herself. God doesn’t wait to love us after we come out—He loves us out of hiding.
🕊️ Ama’s Story: “Hidden No More”
Ama had been doing well. Her prayer life was strong, her heart was healing.
But… there were still things she wouldn’t talk about.
A past relationship that scarred her.
A regret she never shared with anyone.
An area she still doubted God could really forgive.
Then she read it:
“Show me your face, let me hear your voice.”
She stopped.
The Beloved wasn’t asking for her strength—He was asking for her honesty.
She didn’t need to impress Him. She needed to let Him in.
So that night, under her bedsheet, Ama whispered:
“This is what I’ve never told You, Jesus…”
And she told Him everything.
Not only did He not turn away—
She felt more seen, more loved, and more beautiful than ever.
💭 Reflection
Are you still hiding parts of yourself from God—even though He already sees them?
What would it look like to let Him into the cleft of your rock?
Do you know your voice is sweet to Him—even when it’s weak or trembling?
📣 Call to Action
📍Find a quiet space and whisper this prayer:
“Here’s the part I’ve been hiding…”
Then speak honestly to God—just like Ama. Don’t edit it. Don’t polish it. Let Him love you there.
🙏🏽 Prayer
Lord, I’ve hidden parts of my heart for too long. I thought You only wanted the good bits. But You want all of me. Today, I open the door. Show me that my voice is sweet to You—even when it’s shaky. Amen.
