THE UNPROFITABLE PROFIT: GAINS THAT BANKRUPT THE SOUL PART 12: FINAL LAP: THE PROFITABLE LIFE — WHEN THE SOUL IS PRESERVED AND REWARDED
Song of Songs 2:12b
“…and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.”
In Part 5, the first signs of that season began to show—flowers bloomed, songs returned, and joy began to find expression in Ama’s life.
📜 Verse Breakdown and Imagery
This part of the verse draws our focus to the turtledove—a bird often associated in Scripture and Hebrew culture with gentleness, faithfulness, and intimacy.
Here’s what the imagery tells us:
“Voice of the turtledove” – This isn’t a thunderous shout. It’s a soft cooing—representing how God speaks to us in gentle, intimate ways. The turtledove’s voice is not harsh; it’s calm and soothing.
“Is heard in our land” – This reveals a shift in atmosphere. The land that once echoed silence or sorrow is now filled with divine whisperings. God is moving in the environment, and you can now hear what was once drowned out by noise, pain, or fear.
In the spiritual context, the turtledove reflects the Holy Spirit—God’s comforting, guiding presence that speaks in subtle ways: through Scripture, nature, thoughts, dreams, people, or quiet prayer.
🕊️ Ama’s Story: “When the Whisper Speaks Louder”
Ama had started spending a few quiet moments after her morning bath just sitting still. No music. No scrolling. No asking.
Just silence.
At first, it felt awkward. Pointless.
But by day four, something changed.
She began to notice…
A Scripture would rise in her heart out of nowhere.
A thought would settle gently: “Pray for this person today.”
A gentle assurance: “You are not behind schedule.”
It wasn’t dramatic. It wasn’t loud.
It was like a whisper carried by the wind.
Soft. Kind. Steady.
And then, while reading Song of Songs 2 again, her eyes stopped at:
“…the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.”
She smiled. That was it.
She was finally hearing the Dove.
💭 Reflection
Are you making space for the Dove’s whisper in your daily life?
How does God usually speak to you—through silence, people, Scripture, music, or impressions?
What gentle whisper has He been saying that you’ve overlooked?
📣 Call to Action
📍Create a quiet space this week—no requests, just rest.
Ask this simple prayer:
“Holy Spirit, what are You whispering today?”
Then journal what comes.
🙏🏽 Prayer
Holy Spirit, help me slow down enough to hear Your gentle voice. Let me be sensitive to Your whisperings. Soften my heart, quiet my mind, and open my ears to the turtledove’s call in this season. Amen
