THE UNPROFITABLE PROFIT: GAINS THAT BANKRUPT THE SOUL PART 12: FINAL LAP: THE PROFITABLE LIFE — WHEN THE SOUL IS PRESERVED AND REWARDED
📖 Genesis 2:16–17
“And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will surely die.’”
Every blessing has a boundary.
Every garden has a gate.
And every promise comes with principles that protect it.
God’s instruction to Adam wasn’t a setup for failure — it was a structure for fruitfulness.
He gave him freedom, but also framed it with one restriction.
Because even in paradise, trust must be tested.
The tree of the knowledge of good and evil was not just about fruit — it was about faithfulness.
Would Adam trust the Giver’s wisdom more than his own curiosity?
1. Boundaries Define Trust, Not Limitation
Many see God’s “no” as limitation, but in truth, it reveals how much He trusts you.
He trusted Adam with access to every tree, and trusted him to guard the one he couldn’t touch.
That’s divine partnership — freedom framed by faith.
God gives us gifts, dreams, and desires — but He also gives guidelines.
Your calling has boundaries.
Your relationships have boundaries.
Even your ministry has boundaries.
Ignoring them doesn’t make you free; it makes you fragile.
2. The Test of Love Is Obedience
True love doesn’t demand endless explanation — it rests in trust.
Adam didn’t need to understand why that tree was off limits; he only needed to believe Who said it.
When we love God, we obey not out of fear but out of faith.
Because obedience isn’t about control — it’s about communion.
Every time you say “yes” to God’s voice and “no” to your flesh, heaven sees love expressed in its purest form.
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.” — John 14:15
3. The Forbidden Fruit and the Familiar Trap
The serpent didn’t change the fruit — he changed the focus.
He made Eve notice the one thing she didn’t have, rather than the thousand she did.
That’s how discontentment begins — when desire replaces gratitude.
Many lose their Eden not because God left, but because they left contentment.
When you start questioning God’s intentions, you open the door for deception.
That’s why boundaries aren’t burdens — they’re blessings in disguise.
4. Obedience Preserves Eden
What kept the garden alive wasn’t the trees — it was trust.
Eden thrived as long as Adam obeyed.
Your life, too, blossoms under obedience.
When you stay within the boundaries of God’s will, you remain under the mist of His provision.
Step outside, and the mist lifts.
Disobedience dries the ground of grace.
Reflection
Boundaries are love wrapped in instruction.
They guard what God gives and keep you from what could grieve you.
The real question today isn’t “Why can’t I?” but “Will I trust Him enough not to?”
🌱 What boundaries has God drawn around you in this season?
🌱 Do you see them as restriction — or as protection?
Prayer
Father, thank You for the boundaries that protect my blessings. Help me to see Your “no” as love, not limitation. Teach me to trust even when I don’t fully understand. Strengthen my heart to stay within the walls of Your wisdom, that I may dwell in the garden of Your grace forever. Amen.

Before sin entered, God walked with man. In the next part, we’ll explore how intimacy with God sustains creation, and what happens when fellowship becomes distant.
