THE UNPROFITABLE PROFIT: GAINS THAT BANKRUPT THE SOUL PART 12: FINAL LAP: THE PROFITABLE LIFE — WHEN THE SOUL IS PRESERVED AND REWARDED
Matthew 25:10–12
“And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.”
In our previous lesson, we saw a critical mistake made by the foolish virgins. When the moment arrived, they turned to others for what should have been personally prepared. Oil could not be borrowed. Readiness could not be transferred. Preparation was not shareable.
That lesson revealed a painful truth: dependence cannot replace discipline.
Today, we confront a sobering truth: not every door remains open forever.
Devotional Thought
When Opportunity Refuses to Wait
The most painful part of this parable is not the lack of oil—it is the closed door. The foolish virgins were not rejected because they were strangers. They were not denied because they were immoral. They were shut out because they were unprepared.
Notice this carefully:
They went to correct their mistake—but the timing had passed.
They knocked—but the season had shifted.
They called—but the door remained closed.
This teaches us a hard lesson: some opportunities do not wait for adjustment.
In life, there are doors that respond only to preparedness, not apologies. Exams don’t reopen because we studied late. Deadlines don’t shift because we realized too late. Certain relationships, seasons, and assignments require readiness before arrival.
Grace gives invitation.
Wisdom demands preparation.
The tragedy of the closed door is not wickedness—it is delay.
Pause and Reflect
Where have I assumed I could always “fix it later”?
Which areas of my life lack urgency in preparation?
What door might I be approaching unready?
Life Application
Spiritually
Grace opens the door, but discipline keeps it open. Delayed obedience weakens spiritual sensitivity. Preparation is faith expressed in advance.
Academically
Opportunities reward readiness, not intentions. Late preparation limits full access. Consistency protects future doors.
Life
Some seasons cannot be revisited. Preparation determines access and longevity. What you ignore today may confront you tomorrow.
Prayer
Lord, deliver me from spiritual procrastination. Help me to prepare before the door appears. Teach me to value timing, discipline, and foresight. Let my readiness honor the opportunities You place before me. Amen.
