THE REDEMPTIVE POWER OF GOD: ELISHA AND THE WIDOW'S JAR OF OIL PART 5: THE DISCIPLINE OF THE SECRET PLACE — WHEN MIRACLES REQUIRE CLOSED DOORS 2 KINGS 4:4-5 In Part 4, we learned that miracles often involve movement, obedience, and action. The widow was instructed to go out, borrow vessels, and gather what was needed. We saw that God’s instructions often require participation, and that obedience is a key that unlocks divine provision. Now the story moves from the outside world into the inside space of encounter. After the vessels were gathered, something very significant happens in the process of the miracle. The next instruction is not about movement—but about isolation. God begins to shift the widow from public obedience to private encounter. In 2 Kings 4:4-5, Elisha gives a new instruction: “ Go in and shut the door behind you and your sons … ” This moment is deeply spiritual. Before the oil flows, the door must be closed. This teaches us that some dimensions of God’s power are ...

THE WALL, THE HOLE, AND THE DOOR: A JOURNEY INTO THE HEART.
PART 3: BEHIND CLOSED DOORS: WHAT HAPPENS IN THE DARK

Ezekiel 8:7-12

In part 2, we saw an image of jealousy standing at the entrance of the gate — an idol that provoked the Lord to anger. When idols such as lust, pride, power, money, and fame sit at the entrance, they provoke God’s jealousy. In the vision of part 3, God takes Ezekiel deeper. A hidden door is revealed, leading to a secret chamber where the elders of Israel secretly worship idols, thinking no one sees them. But God uncovers their darkness.

This reminds us of something important: God not only sees what happens in public but also what happens in private. Our hidden thoughts, our secret sins, and the things we do behind closed doors are all before Him.

Ezekiel is told, “Dig through the wall.” Behind the wall lies a door. Behind the door lies a room full of images of idols, and the elders are burning incense in the dark. These are leaders—people who are supposed to lead the nation spiritually—but in secret, they are worshipping other gods.

How real is this for today’s church?

Secret addictions: Pornography, gambling, or unhealthy obsessions that members (and even leaders) hide.

Private compromises: People who appear holy in church but at home live a totally different life.

Hidden motives: Serving in church for recognition, power, or connections rather than to honor God.

Like the elders, many believe, “The Lord does not see us.” But the God who asked Ezekiel to “dig through the wall” still uncovers hidden things today.

Reflection

Everyone has a “secret room.” The real question is: What’s in yours?

Is it a room of prayer, purity, and devotion—or a room filled with idols of self, lust, greed, and lies?

Remember: What’s hidden from people is still open before God.

This week, ask God to search your heart and reveal what’s behind your “wall.” Don’t wait for Him to expose it publicly—surrender it privately.

👉 Break down that secret wall and let God’s light flood in.

Teaser for Part 4

🔜 “Next, Ezekiel is shown women weeping for a false god at the temple gate. What does that mean for us today?
