THE REDEMPTIVE POWER OF GOD: ELISHA AND THE WIDOW'S JAR OF OIL PART 5: THE DISCIPLINE OF THE SECRET PLACE — WHEN MIRACLES REQUIRE CLOSED DOORS 2 KINGS 4:4-5 In Part 4, we learned that miracles often involve movement, obedience, and action. The widow was instructed to go out, borrow vessels, and gather what was needed. We saw that God’s instructions often require participation, and that obedience is a key that unlocks divine provision. Now the story moves from the outside world into the inside space of encounter. After the vessels were gathered, something very significant happens in the process of the miracle. The next instruction is not about movement—but about isolation. God begins to shift the widow from public obedience to private encounter. In 2 Kings 4:4-5, Elisha gives a new instruction: “ Go in and shut the door behind you and your sons … ” This moment is deeply spiritual. Before the oil flows, the door must be closed. This teaches us that some dimensions of God’s power are ...

PART 5: MEN WITH THEIR FACES TOWARD THE EAST — WORSHIPING THE CREATED INSTEAD OF THE CREATOR

Ezekiel 8:16

In Part 4, we saw women weeping for Tammuz, revealing misplaced grief and idolatry of the heart. Today, the vision gets even heavier. Ezekiel is brought into the inner court of the Lord’s house, where twenty-five men have turned their backs to God’s temple and their faces toward the east, worshiping the rising sun.

This scene is shocking. These were not ordinary men but leaders, supposed to guide God’s people into truth. Instead, they stood in the very courts of the temple, turning their backs on God’s presence and bowing to creation.

💡 Lessons for us:

Backs Turned to God: Every time we prioritize creation over the Creator—money, careers, relationships, status—we turn our backs on Him.

Faces to the East: Facing east symbolized chasing “new light” outside of God. Today, many run after trends, philosophies, or false sources of hope, instead of waiting on God’s light.

Worship Misplaced: God deserves our full worship, yet many give their best energy to work, entertainment, or people, and leave God the leftovers.

Paul warns us in Romans 1:25 about exchanging the truth of God for a lie, worshiping created things instead of the Creator. This is exactly what Ezekiel saw—and it grieved God deeply.

Reflection

What direction is your face turned toward? Are you leaning toward God’s temple or turning your back on Him? Worship is not just about Sunday service; it’s about who or what gets your first gaze, your first trust, and your first love.
