THE REDEMPTIVE POWER OF GOD: ELISHA AND THE WIDOW'S JAR OF OIL PART 5: THE DISCIPLINE OF THE SECRET PLACE — WHEN MIRACLES REQUIRE CLOSED DOORS 2 KINGS 4:4-5 In Part 4, we learned that miracles often involve movement, obedience, and action. The widow was instructed to go out, borrow vessels, and gather what was needed. We saw that God’s instructions often require participation, and that obedience is a key that unlocks divine provision. Now the story moves from the outside world into the inside space of encounter. After the vessels were gathered, something very significant happens in the process of the miracle. The next instruction is not about movement—but about isolation. God begins to shift the widow from public obedience to private encounter. In 2 Kings 4:4-5, Elisha gives a new instruction: “ Go in and shut the door behind you and your sons … ” This moment is deeply spiritual. Before the oil flows, the door must be closed. WHEN THE ROBE COMES OFF: HONORING THE HUMANITY OF GOD’S SERVANTS
PART 3: THE BATTLE IN THE BODY


 Galatians 5:17

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want." (NIV) 



When the Flesh Fights Back


Recap of Part 2:

Yesterday, we saw how even after calling down fire, Elijah found himself broken and vulnerable—proving that glory moments can be followed by deep emotional lows.


After intense fasting.

After fervent prayer.

After a power-packed service where heaven kissed earth and lives were changed... the body starts whispering.


And sometimes... shouting.


This devotional is not theory. It’s real. It’s raw. And it’s mine.

There have been moments—after great ministrations, seasons of prayer, deep fastings—when I felt emptied and full of God… only for my body to start craving the opposite. Sexual thoughts began to stir. Lust crept in like an uninvited guest. The urge to masturbate. The temptation to visit pornographic websites. All of it knocking... loudly.


It felt like the same body that hosted glory on the altar was now crying out for indulgence. The same vessel that carried fire now wrestled with fleshly fire. And I know I’m not alone.


Devotional Thought:

This is the battle many ministers fight—and very few talk about.

You can carry the anointing and still feel the ache of the flesh.

You can preach powerfully and still go home to a bed of temptation.

Because the vessel is still earthen.


Jesus said, “The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matthew 26:41). He said it right after He prayed—and right before He went to the Cross.


Spiritual success doesn’t silence the flesh. In fact, it often awakens it.


The enemy knows the best time to tempt a minister is after spiritual expenditure. When virtue has gone out, and no one is pouring back in. He waits for that empty space—and then tries to fill it with carnal cravings.



But here's the truth:

The battle is real, but so is grace.

The temptation is loud, but so is God’s Spirit.

We don’t win by pretending we’re not vulnerable. We win by admitting we are—and running to the One who understands our frame.



Reflection Questions:

Have I ever acknowledged that my body still craves things contrary to my calling?


Do I have a plan for post-ministry moments when temptation arises?


Who holds me accountable when I’m under pressure or about to fall?




Call to Action:

Today, create a post-ministry care plan:


Who will you call when the temptation is loud?


What verses will you run to?


Where can you rest safely?

You are not alone in this. Seek accountability and don't be silent about the war within.




🙏Prayer:

Lord, You see me. You know the battles that rise after the fire falls. You know the moments when my body cries out for what my spirit does not want. Deliver me from secret battles. Help me to run, not reason with sin. Fill me where I feel empty. Heal me where I feel weak. Help me to honor You, even in my flesh. Strengthen every pastor, minister, and vessel in this season. In Jesus’ name, amen.
