THE REDEMPTIVE POWER OF GOD: ELISHA AND THE WIDOW'S JAR OF OIL PART 5: THE DISCIPLINE OF THE SECRET PLACE — WHEN MIRACLES REQUIRE CLOSED DOORS 2 KINGS 4:4-5 In Part 4, we learned that miracles often involve movement, obedience, and action. The widow was instructed to go out, borrow vessels, and gather what was needed. We saw that God’s instructions often require participation, and that obedience is a key that unlocks divine provision. Now the story moves from the outside world into the inside space of encounter. After the vessels were gathered, something very significant happens in the process of the miracle. The next instruction is not about movement—but about isolation. God begins to shift the widow from public obedience to private encounter. In 2 Kings 4:4-5, Elisha gives a new instruction: “ Go in and shut the door behind you and your sons … ” This moment is deeply spiritual. Before the oil flows, the door must be closed. THE LIFE CYCLE OF SIN AS CHILDBEARING 
PART 9: SPIRITUAL NOURISHMENT: FEEDING WHAT YOU WANT TO GROW


James 1:15

Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.


RECAP of part 8

In Part 8, we talked about nurturing righteous desires and repenting before sin matures. Today, we take a closer look at how spiritual nourishment determines what grows in the womb of your heart—righteousness or rebellion.



Feed What You Want to Grow

Every living thing grows based on what it is fed. If you constantly feed your spirit with worldly influences, compromise, and spiritual neglect, your sinful desires will flourish. But if you feed on the Word, prayer, worship, and godly counsel, righteousness will take root and grow strong.


Matthew 4:4 says, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” Without consistent spiritual feeding, your inner man becomes weak and vulnerable to temptation. You begin to lose the strength to resist sin and the discernment to recognize it early.



Immaturity Opens Doors to Sin

Hebrews 5:12–14 shows us that spiritual immaturity leaves believers unable to distinguish between right and wrong. Babies need milk, but mature believers crave solid food—the deeper truths of God’s Word. If your spiritual appetite is low, it's a sign you're starving spiritually, and starvation makes sin more appealing.




REFLECTION

Are you feeding your soul or starving it? What fills your thoughts daily—Scripture or screen time? Worship or worry? The way to a strong spiritual immune system is a steady diet of God's presence and His Word.




Call to Action

Start each day with intentional spiritual nourishment: read the Word, pray, listen to uplifting messages, and surround yourself with Christ-centered community. Don’t skip spiritual meals—your strength depends on it.




PRAYER

Lord, awaken my hunger for Your Word. Help me feed on truth, not trends. Strengthen my spirit through regular fellowship with You, and fill my heart with cravings for righteousness. Amen.
