THE SURROGATE JOURNEY: BIRTHING PURPOSE THROUGH OTHERS.  PART 3: THE WEIGHT OF THE WOMB — WHEN CARRYING GETS COMPLICATED Genesis 16:5–6 Then Sarai said to Abram, ‘You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my servant in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me.’ Then Sarai mistreated Hagar; so she fled from her.” (NIV) 🔁 Quick Recap: In Part 2 , we met Hagar, the Egyptian servant chosen by Sarai to carry her child. Though not her dream, not her plan, and not her baby—she became the carrier of a promise she didn’t initiate. We learned how sometimes we are called to be the “other woman” in someone else’s destiny story—carrying, serving, interceding, and pushing someone else’s dream forward. 🤰 The Blessing that Brought Bitterness Hagar became pregnant. She was carrying the long-awaited seed. She should have been celebrated. But instead… she was mistreated. The one who chose her now chased her. The one who needed her now neglected her. The woman...

THE LIFE CYCLE OF SIN AS CHILDBEARING
PART 15: BAD “SPIRITUAL NUTRIENTS” FOR UNHEALTHY GROWTH (SINFUL DESIRES) - TOXIC MEDIA CONTINUED

James 1:15

Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

RECAP OF PART 14

In the last chapter, we examined how toxic media—like violent content—acts as "junk food" for the soul, feeding sinful desires and weakening our connection with God. Today, we explore further ways harmful media affects our spiritual health, focusing on gossip and slander, and practical steps to guard our hearts.

Bad “Spiritual Nutrients” for Unhealthy Growth (Sinful Desires)

Just as harmful substances can endanger a baby’s development, allowing our minds to absorb toxic influences such as gossip pollutes our spiritual health. These influences are like “poisonous food” for the soul, feeding unhealthy desires that damage our connection with God and others.

3. Toxic Media (Junk Food for the Soul) – Gossip and Slander

Bad for Growth:

Social media and everyday conversations often amplify gossip, judgment, and comparison. Participating in these patterns feeds jealousy, bitterness, and insecurity, which harm relationships and corrode spiritual well-being.

Scripture Reference: “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” — Ephesians 4:29 (KJV)

This verse calls us to use words that build others up rather than tear them down, encouraging grace-filled speech.

Analogy:

Gossip is like a small spark in a dry forest — seemingly harmless but capable of quickly spreading into a destructive fire. Just as a spark can consume an entire forest, gossip can destroy trust, ruin reputations, and leave emotional and spiritual devastation in its wake.

REFLECTION:

Think about the last time you heard or shared gossip. How did it affect your heart and the people involved? How might you choose words that build up rather than break down?

Call to Action:

This week, commit to avoiding gossip and slander. When tempted, choose to speak encouragement and truth instead. Observe the impact on your relationships and spiritual health.

PRAYER:

Lord, cleanse my heart from harmful words and thoughts. Help me to speak life, encouragement, and truth to those around me, reflecting Your grace in all I say. Amen.

Next Part – Part 16:

Next, we turn our attention to Negative Influences (Poisonous Foods) — examining how harmful environments and associations can corrupt our hearts and draw us away from God.

📌Let’s Talk:

What are some practical ways to avoid gossip in daily life?

How can social media be used to build others up instead of tearing them down?

Please kindly share your thoughts, testimonies, or questions—we grow better together.

Thank you!

  1. I believe the best way to avoid gossip is spending less time with people who do that. Staying busy and focusing on yourself helps avoid unnecessary conversations.

    1. Absolutely, Esi. You've nailed it. Protecting our peace often means guarding our space and time. Staying focused on growth and surrounding ourselves with purpose-driven people can truly keep gossip out of the picture.
