THE REDEMPTIVE POWER OF GOD: ELISHA AND THE WIDOW'S JAR OF OIL PART 5: THE DISCIPLINE OF THE SECRET PLACE — WHEN MIRACLES REQUIRE CLOSED DOORS 2 KINGS 4:4-5 In Part 4, we learned that miracles often involve movement, obedience, and action. The widow was instructed to go out, borrow vessels, and gather what was needed. We saw that God’s instructions often require participation, and that obedience is a key that unlocks divine provision. Now the story moves from the outside world into the inside space of encounter. After the vessels were gathered, something very significant happens in the process of the miracle. The next instruction is not about movement—but about isolation. God begins to shift the widow from public obedience to private encounter. In 2 Kings 4:4-5, Elisha gives a new instruction: “ Go in and shut the door behind you and your sons … ” This moment is deeply spiritual. Before the oil flows, the door must be closed. This teaches us that some dimensions of God’s power are ...

THE LIFE CYCLE OF SIN AS CHILDBEARING PART 14: BAD “SPIRITUAL NUTRIENTS” FOR UNHEALTHY GROWTH (SINFUL DESIRES) - TOXIC MEDIA CONTINUED

THE LIFE CYCLE OF SIN AS CHILDBEARING
PART 14: BAD “SPIRITUAL NUTRIENTS” FOR UNHEALTHY GROWTH (SINFUL DESIRES) - TOXIC MEDIA CONTINUED

James 1:15

Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

RECAP OF PART 13

In the last chapter, we explored how harmful influences—especially toxic media—act as "junk food" for the soul, nurturing sinful desires and weakening our connection with God. In this continuation, we delve deeper into the impact of toxic media and how we can guard our hearts against these spiritual pollutants.

Bad “Spiritual Nutrients” for Unhealthy Growth (Sinful Desires)

Just as harmful foods threaten a baby's healthy development, exposing ourselves to toxic influences—like aggressive content or gossip—feeds sinful desires and damages our spiritual well-being. These spiritual "junk foods" cultivate habits that hinder intimacy with God and deform the spiritual life He intends for us.

2. Toxic Media – Violent or Aggressive Content

Bad for Growth:

Constant exposure to violent video games, movies, or TV shows can desensitize us to aggression and normalize harmful behaviors. Over time, these influences reshape our values and reduce our sensitivity to the peace-loving, compassionate spirit God desires in His children.

Scripture Reference: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” — Matthew 5:9 (NIV)

This verse calls us to reflect God’s character by promoting peace, not violence, in our lives.

Analogy:

Engaging with violent media is like consuming a steady diet of high-sugar junk food: it may satisfy temporarily but leads to long-term damage. Just as excess sugar harms physical health, violent and aggressive content damages our spiritual health by dulling our conscience, encouraging harmful attitudes, and creating blockages to spiritual peace.

REFLECTION:

Have you become desensitized to aggressive or violent content in your entertainment? Is it possible that your spiritual appetite is being reshaped by the things you watch, listen to, or engage in?

Call to Action:

Evaluate your media habits this week. Identify shows, games, or content that promote violence, strife, or gossip. Replace them with media that builds peace, love, and godliness in your heart.

PRAYER:

Lord, help me to guard my heart and mind from harmful influences. Fill me with Your peace and truth, that I may honor You in all that I consume. Let my life reflect Your peace in a broken and chaotic world. Amen.

Next Part – Part 15:

In the next chapter, we’ll explore more ways harmful media affects our spiritual health and offer practical steps to guard our hearts and nurture healthy desires.

📌Let’s Talk:

What’s one show or game you enjoy but know may be desensitizing you spiritually?

How can you intentionally choose peace-promoting content instead?

Please kindly share your thoughts, testimonies, or questions—we grow better together.

Thank you!
