THE REDEMPTIVE POWER OF GOD: ELISHA AND THE WIDOW'S JAR OF OIL PART 5: THE DISCIPLINE OF THE SECRET PLACE — WHEN MIRACLES REQUIRE CLOSED DOORS 2 KINGS 4:4-5 In Part 4, we learned that miracles often involve movement, obedience, and action. The widow was instructed to go out, borrow vessels, and gather what was needed. We saw that God’s instructions often require participation, and that obedience is a key that unlocks divine provision. Now the story moves from the outside world into the inside space of encounter. After the vessels were gathered, something very significant happens in the process of the miracle. The next instruction is not about movement—but about isolation. God begins to shift the widow from public obedience to private encounter. In 2 Kings 4:4-5, Elisha gives a new instruction: “ Go in and shut the door behind you and your sons … ” This moment is deeply spiritual. Before the oil flows, the door must be closed. This teaches us that some dimensions of God’s power are ...

THE LIFE CYCLE OF SIN AS CHILDBEARING PART 6: THE MATURE CHILD—SIN THAT LEADS TO DEATH

THE LIFE CYCLE OF SIN AS CHILDBEARING
PART 6: THE MATURE CHILD—SIN THAT LEADS TO DEATH

James 1:15

Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

RECAP of part 5

In the last chapter, we explored how unchecked desires, when consistently nurtured and entertained, give birth to sinful actions. Today, we examine the final stage—how sin, when fully matured, ultimately leads to spiritual death, severing our connection with God and derailing the purpose He intends for our lives.

4. Full Maturity of Sin Leads to Death

Just as a child grows and matures after birth, sin also matures when we repeatedly act on it without repentance. James 1:15 makes it painfully clear: “…and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.”

This death is not just physical—it’s spiritual death, marked by disconnection from God, loss of divine intimacy, and a hardened heart that can no longer feel the weight of conviction. It’s a stage where sin becomes habitual, and one begins to normalize what once caused discomfort.

Spiritual Death:

This is the most dangerous stage of sin’s life cycle. At this point, a person becomes spiritually desensitized, no longer responding to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Sin becomes a lifestyle rather than a mistake. The conscience becomes hardened, and God’s voice grows faint. This is not merely the result of one bad choice, but of continual, unrepented sin that matures and rigid in the heart.

Left unchecked, this leads to eternal separation from God—the very definition of spiritual death. Yet, this is not God's desire for any of us. That’s why He offers grace, mercy, and repentance to interrupt this deadly progression.

REFLECTION:

What habits in your life may have matured from simple desires to sinful behaviors? Are there areas where you no longer feel convicted like you once did? Could it be that sin is quietly growing into something deadlier?

Call to Action:

Today, make time to examine your spiritual health. Ask God to shine His light on any area in your life where sin has grown unnoticed. Confess it. Don’t wait until it matures. Cut it off now before it leads you further from God. Spiritual death doesn't have to be your end.

PRAYER:

Lord, help me recognize sin early and grant me the courage to turn away from it. Revive my spirit and make me sensitive again to Your voice. Heal the areas where I have drifted, and draw me back into full alignment with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Next Part (Part 7 - Breaking the Cycle):

In our next devotional, we will learn how to interrupt the life cycle of sin and explore practical steps to guard our hearts and resist temptation before sin ever takes root.

📌Let’s Talk:

Has there ever been a time you felt spiritually numb, where prayer and conviction seemed far away? What helped you return to God—or what do you think might help now? Share with someone today or write it in your journal. Don’t walk alone—healing starts with honesty.

Please kindly share your thoughts, testimonies, or questions—we grow better together.

Thank you!
