THE TALE OF KING AHAZIAH: LEGACY OF SHADOWS PART 1: THE FALL FROM THE ROOFTOP — WHEN A FALL BECOMES A TEST OF WHERE YOU TURN 2 KINGS 1:2 In 2 Kings 1:2, we are introduced to a troubling moment in the life of King Ahaziah. The king suffers a serious fall through the lattice of his upper room in Samaria and becomes badly injured. In his pain, uncertainty, and fear, he sends messengers—not to inquire of the Lord—but to seek counsel from Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, asking whether he would recover. This is not just the story of a man who had an accident. It is the story of a man whose crisis exposed the true condition of his heart. Ahaziah’s fall did not merely injure his body; it revealed where his trust was anchored. Moments of weakness often uncover what years of strength have hidden . When life shakes us, what we run to reveals what truly rules us. The first major lesson in Ahaziah’s story is this: a fall is bad, but turning to the wrong source after the fall is even more dangerous . ...

WHILE WE WAIT, GOD IS WORKING PART 1: THE GOD WHO SPEAKS IN EXILE

WHILE WE WAIT, GOD IS WORKING
PART 1: THE GOD WHO SPEAKS IN EXILE

Jeremiah 29:1–4

This is the text of the letter that the prophet Jeremiah sent to the exiles… This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon..."

Have you ever felt displaced—not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually? Like you’re in a place you didn’t choose, living a story you didn’t write?

That’s how Israel felt in Babylonian exile. They had been uprooted from Jerusalem and planted in enemy territory. They were wounded, confused, and asking:

“Where is God in all this?”

And then…a letter arrived—from the prophet Jeremiah. Not a letter of escape, but a letter of encouragement in exile.

The first thing it revealed?

👉 God still speaks—even in uncomfortable places.

📜 Main Message:

Jeremiah 29 opens with a divine letter to captives. These were not random people; they were God’s covenant people living through the consequences of rebellion—but God had not gone silent.

In verse 4, He introduces Himself not as a distant deity, but as:

"The Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, to all those I carried into exile..."

Wait—God carried them into exile?

Yes. Even the hard places were part of His plan. But more importantly, He didn’t abandon them in the process. He spoke to them, not just about them.

⚖️ Balanced Life Lessons

💒 Spiritual:

God speaks in exile. His voice doesn’t go quiet when life goes hard. In fact, He often speaks loudest in our lowest moments.

🧠 Emotional:

It’s okay to be confused. But don’t let confusion make you tune out God’s voice. He’s still reaching out.

🏞Physical/Environmental:

You may not like where you are, but you’re still within His reach. Even foreign soil can be holy ground when God speaks.

🌐 Social/Relational:

This letter was to a community, not just individuals. Sometimes, your comfort and direction come in community counsel, not private whispers.

🔁 Reflection:

What "exile" are you currently in? A delay? A heartbreak? A job you didn’t expect?

Are you assuming God has gone silent just because the season is hard?

What if the letter is already in your inbox, waiting for you to open it?

🙏 Prayer:

Lord, thank You that even in places I didn’t choose, You still speak.

Help me open my ears to Your voice in this season.

May my heart be tender enough to receive, even when the message is not what I expected.

💥 Call to Action:

This week, set aside 15 minutes daily just to listen. Not to ask. Not to vent. Just to ask, “Lord, what are You saying to me in this season?”

💬 Let’s Talk:

How has God spoken to you in uncomfortable seasons before?

What are the biggest obstacles that keep you from hearing Him now?

🪜 Teaser for Part 2:

Sometimes, the answer to your prayer for escape is not a door—but a shovel.

In Part 2, we’ll explore why God didn’t say “Come out,” but rather, “Build while you wait.”

Don’t miss it.
