WHEN FOLLOWING JESUS COSTS EVERYTHING

FINAL LAP: THE DECISION THAT DEFINES YOU


Luke 9:23 (NIV)

Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”


In Part 10, we discovered that surrender is not loss—it is an exchange. Jesus Christ assured us that no one who leaves anything for Him will go unrewarded. What you give up for God will never compare to what He gives back.


Opening Thought 

At the end of it all, following Jesus comes down to one thing:

a decision.

Not a feeling.

Not a moment.

Not a temporary commitment.

But a daily decision.

Throughout this series, we have seen different responses to Jesus:

One man made a bold promise—but hadn’t counted the cost. Another delayed with “first let me…” Another looked back. The rich young ruler walked away.

The disciples surrendered and followed. Now Jesus brings it all together:

“Deny yourself… take up your cross… follow Me.”

This is not a one-time act.

It is a lifestyle of surrender.


Deeper Truth 🔥

The cross is not just about suffering—it is about death to self.

Your will.

Your plans.

Your preferences.

Your control.

Following Jesus means:

You no longer live for yourself—you live led by Him.


The Defining Decision ⚖️

Every believer must answer this question:

Will I follow Jesus completely—or conditionally?

Completely means “Lord, anything, anytime, anywhere”

Conditionally means “Lord, as long as it fits my plan”

This decision determines:

your growth

your direction

your destiny

Many people want:

the benefits of following Jesus.

the blessings.

the breakthroughs.

But hesitate at:

denial.

sacrifice.

surrender.

Yet the truth remains:

There is no crown without the cross.
