THE GREAT CHEF: WHEN GOD COOKS PART 4: DAVID — THE INGREDIENT OF DELAY

THE GREAT CHEF: WHEN GOD COOKS PART 4: DAVID — THE INGREDIENT OF DELAY In Part 3, we explored the life of Jephthah and the ingredient of rejection. We learned that: Rejection is not always denial — it is often redirection. The rejected can become the requested. Identity must not be built on people’s opinions. “ The stone the builders rejected…” (Psalm 118:22) Now we step into another difficult ingredient… Not betrayal. Not rejection. But delay. Delay is frustrating. Because you know: You are called. You are anointed. You are capable. Yet… nothing seems to be moving. Doors are not opening. Opportunities are not aligning. Timing is not making sense. And you begin to ask: “ God, why is it taking so long?” Let’s step into the life of David. A man who was anointed early… But enthroned much later. Anointing Does Not Cancel Process David was chosen and anointed as king. “ Arise, anoint him…” (1 Samuel 16:12) But after the oil came…He went back to the field. No throne. No crown. No announceme...

WHEN FOLLOWING JESUS COSTS EVERYTHING PART 8: WHEN LOVE DOES NOT LOWER THE STANDARD

WHEN FOLLOWING JESUS COSTS EVERYTHING

PART 8: WHEN LOVE DOES NOT LOWER THE STANDARD

Mark 10:21 (NIV)

Jesus Christ looked at him and loved him… “One thing you lack…”

In Part 7, we discovered that everyone has a “one thing.” We learned that spiritual growth is often limited not by many weaknesses, but by one area we refuse to surrender. What you won’t release can restrict how far you go with God.

Opening Thought

We often think love means acceptance without challenge. But with God, love does not ignore truth—it reveals it.

Sometimes, the greatest expression of love is not comfort…it is correction.

Key Phrase

“Jesus looked at him and loved him…”

Insight 🔍

Before Jesus Christ told the rich young ruler what he lacked, the Bible makes something very clear:

He loved him. This is powerful because it means:

Jesus did not challenge him out of anger

Jesus did not expose him out of rejection

Jesus spoke out of love. And yet… He still said:

One thing you lack…”

Deeper Truth 🔥

Love did not reduce the requirement.

Love revealed the requirement.

This changes how we understand God.

Many people want:

a loving God

a kind Savior

But struggle with:

correction

conviction

surrender

Yet true love says:

I care too much about you to leave you where you are.

Modern Misunderstanding

Today, love is often defined as:

“Accept me as I am”

“Don’t challenge me”

“Don’t require change”

But Kingdom love is different.

God loves you as you are—but He refuses to leave you as you are.

Spiritual Reality 📖

When God points out your “one thing,” it is not to:

shame you

expose you publicly

push you away

It is to:

refine you

free you

draw you closer

Powerful Truth 💡

God’s love will confront anything that competes with Him in your life.

If He leaves it untouched, it’s not love—it’s neglect.

Real-life Reflection 🧭

Sometimes, when:

a message convicts you

a leader corrects you

the Holy Spirit nudges you

Your first reaction may be:

discomfort

resistance

even offense

But what if that moment is actually:

God loving you enough to not let you stay the same?

Spiritual Lesson 🧠

This passage teaches us that:

Love and correction go together. God’s standards are not lowered by His love

Growth requires accepting both love and truth

Reflection Questions 🤔

How do I respond when God corrects me?

Have I mistaken correction for rejection?

Am I willing to accept truth even when it is uncomfortable?

What has God been pointing out in my life lately?

Prayer 🙏

Lord Jesus, Thank You for loving me enough to correct me. Help me not to resist Your truth or run from Your conviction. Give me a humble heart that receives correction and a willing spirit that responds in obedience. Let Your love transform me completely. Amen.

Call To Action ✍️

The next time you feel convicted or corrected, pause and ask:

“What is God trying to change in me because He loves me?”

Then respond with obedience—not resistance.

Part 9: When Sorrow Replaces Surrender

The rich young ruler walked away sad. In the next devotional, we will explore how people can encounter truth, feel conviction, yet still choose sorrow over surrender—and how to avoid that trap.

God is speaking, are you listening?
