THE GREAT CHEF: WHEN GOD COOKS PART 5: MOSES — THE INGREDIENT OF DETOUR
THE GREAT CHEF: WHEN GOD COOKS
PART 5: MOSES — THE INGREDIENT OF DETOUR
In Part 4, we walked through the life of David and the ingredient of delay. We saw that:
Anointing does not cancel process. Delay is God’s development system. Waiting builds capacity. And delay is not denial.
“Wait on the Lord…” (Psalm 27:14)
“At the proper time…” (Galatians 6:9)
Now we move into another complex ingredient… Detours.
A Detour is unexpected change in your life’s direction that still leads to a meaningful outcome.
Detours are frustrating.. Because they interrupt your plan. You had a direction… A vision… A timeline… Then suddenly:
Everything changes. You didn’t plan for it. You didn’t expect it. You didn’t understand it. And you begin to wonder:
“God, why this route?”
A detour is not a denial of destination—it is a redirection of the journey.
Let’s step into the life of Moses — a man whose destiny was shaped not just by direction… But by divine interruption.
God’s Plan May Start Different From Where You End
Moses was born a Hebrew… But raised in Pharaoh’s palace. “She became his mother…” (Exodus 2:10)
He grew up: Educated. Exposed. Influential It looked like a straight path to greatness. But that was only the beginning. Because sometimes God allows you to start in one place… So He can take you somewhere completely different.
Your Mistake Can Become a Turning Point
Moses saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew… And he reacted. He killed the Egyptian.
“He looked this way and that…” (Exodus 2:12)
That moment changed everything. From prince to a fugitive. From palace to the wilderness. It looked like failure. But God used it as a shift. Now, let’s be clear:
God did not endorse the act… But He redeemed the outcome. This is powerful: Even your wrong turns can be woven into God’s purpose.
The Wilderness Is Not a Waste
Moses spent 40 years in Midian. Fort years. No spotlight. No recognition. No visible progress. Just sheep. “He led the flock…” (Exodus 3:1) But in that wilderness:
His pride died. His impatience softened His identity was rebuilt. The palace gave him knowledge. The wilderness gave him character. Some of us are trying to escape seasons that God designed to shape us.
Detours Prepare You for Assignment
One day, in the middle of routine… God showed up. A burning bush. “I have seen the affliction…” (Exodus 3:7)
“I am sending you…” (Exodus 3:10)
The assignment came after the detour. Not before. If Moses had stayed in Egypt: He would have had power. But no patience. If he skipped Midian: He would have had influence. But no depth. The detour made him ready.
God’s Route Is Better Than Your Plan
Moses thought deliverance would happen one way. God did it another way. Through: Process. Signs. Confrontation. Persistence “I will be with you…” (Exodus 3:12)
Here’s the truth: God is not just taking you somewhere… He is taking you there the right way. Detours are not delays. They are divine rerouting.
Real-life Application (Practical Layer)
This is where many people struggle deeply.
Life didn’t go as planned. A career path changed. A relationship didn’t work. A ministry opportunity shifted. A mistake altered direction. And now it feels like:
“I’m off track.” But hear this: God is not confused about your life. That detour: May have protected you. May have humbled you May have prepared you. Sometimes: What looks like a disruption. Is actually divine direction.
Reflection
Ask yourself:
What detour have I experienced in my life?
Have I labeled it as failure instead of formation?
What has this season developed in me?
Call To Action
This week:
Identify one “unexpected turn” in your life
Write down what it taught you
Declare daily:
“God is ordering my steps — even in detours.”
Stop fighting the route. Trust the Chef.
Prayer
Lord, help me trust You when life doesn’t go as planned. Where I have experienced detours, give me understanding. Use every wrong turn, every delay, every hidden season to shape me for Your purpose. Order my steps and align me with Your will in Jesus’ name, Amen.
