BEYOND EHUD: THE LEFT-HANDED WARRIORS OF BENJAMIN PART 1: THE TRIBE THAT CARRIED AN UNUSUAL HAND
In Part 2, we saw that weak watchmen open
the gates. The Great Wall was mighty, but
the Mongols didn’t need to break it—they
only needed to find cracks in the hearts of
the men guarding it. Vigilance, discipline,
and alertness are the true defenses of any
wall—spiritual, emotional, and physical.
Now in Part 3, we explore how compromise
slowly erodes even the strongest defenses.
Every fall begins quietly. Great men don’t
collapse overnight. Nations don’t crumble in
a single week. Spiritual lives don’t dry up in
one morning. Compromise moves slowly.
Silently. Softly. Almost beautifully. It never
knocks loudly. It whispers. And those
whispers weaken a watchman long before a
gate ever opens. The Great Wall didn’t fall in
a moment. It fell in stages. And Part 3 takes
us into the heart of the slow decay.
THE STORY — Part 3
Decades before the Mongols bribed a
gatekeeper, cracks had already begun—not
in the stones, but in the culture of the
soldiers who guarded the wall. Small
excuses were tolerated. Shifts were
swapped carelessly. Complaints increased.
Morale dropped. A soldier would skip a
patrol “just this once.” Another would
drink heavily the night before duty. Another
would gamble away the money needed to
feed his family.
Little weaknesses… Little justifications…
Slowly, their fear of the enemy faded.
and their reverence for duty evaporated.
Nobody noticed. Nobody corrected it.
Nobody rebuilt discipline. By the time the
Mongols arrived, the soldiers had already
lost the battle within. The wall was strong.
The men were not. And compromise had
done more damage than an army ever
could.
LIFE APPLICATION (Holistic)
Spiritually:
Sin rarely begins with action. It begins with
permission. “I’ll fix it later.” “I’m strong
enough; it won’t affect me.” “I’m just tired.”
These little leaks become spiritual floods.
Financially:
Debt begins with “It’s only 20 cedis.”
Financial ruin begins with “I’ll save next
month.” Riches and ruin are built the same
way—daily habits.
Emotionally:
Burnout begins with small ignored emotions.
A boundary not set. A conversation avoided.
A heart neglected.
Physically:
Your body weakens in slow steps— missed
meals, poor sleep, no exercise, energy
drinks replacing water.
Relationally:
Friendships and marriages crack
not through betrayal at first, but through the
slow death of gratitude, listening, and
intentionality. Compromise does not break
walls — it softens them until anything can.
SCRIPTURES FOR PART 3
James 1:14–15 — Desire gives birth to sin; sin gives birth to death.
Song of Solomon 2:15 — The small foxes ruin the vineyard.
1 Corinthians 10:12 — Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
Hebrews 2:1 — Pay close attention so you do not drift.
Reflection Questions
What “quiet compromises” have been creeping into your daily life?
Where have you been giving yourself too much permission?
Which small habits do you need to confront before they grow?
Prayer
Lord, expose every hidden compromise in
me. Heal the slow rot within my habits,
desires, and decisions. Renew my strength,
restore my discipline, and rebuild my
integrity. Help me guard the small things so
I can stand strong in the great tests of life.
Amen.
If compromise weakens a watchman,
what strengthens one?
