THE UNPROFITABLE PROFIT: GAINS THAT BANKRUPT THE SOUL PART 12: FINAL LAP: THE PROFITABLE LIFE — WHEN THE SOUL IS PRESERVED AND REWARDED
John 1:38–39, John 14:15, Romans 12:2
Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
In Part 1, we learnt that discipleship often begins with divine connections.
God intentionally connected Jesus to John the Baptist because John had credibility, followers, and influence.
We discovered that:
God introduces before He increases
Influence, platforms, and numbers are not evil; they are tools. Trust transfers direction.
Subscription begins with the introduction.
Who you follow shapes where you go.
Having subscribed to Jesus, the next critical question becomes this:
Do you truly like what you have subscribed to?
Because many subscribe — but not everyone stays. In the digital world, subscribing is one step. Liking is another. You can follow a page and still dislike its content. You can subscribe and still mute notifications. You can follow and never engage.
In the same way, many are connected to Jesus — but not all agree with His values, lifestyle, or message.
John’s disciples did not just follow Jesus physically; they approved of what they saw, stayed with Him, and engaged Him with questions.
“What seek ye?”
They replied, “Where dwellest thou?”
And they stayed with Him.
That staying was a spiritual “Like.”
1. Spiritually: Liking Is Heart Alignment, Not Emotion
To “like” Jesus spiritually is to agree with His way, not just admire His power. Many love miracles. Few love instructions. Jesus said:
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
Spiritual Truth:
What you truly like, you will eventually obey.
Reflection:
Do you like Jesus’ teachings — forgiveness, humility, sacrifice — or only His blessings?
2. Naturally: Liking Determines Attention
In everyday life:
You scroll past what you don’t like.
You engage with what interests you.
You give time to what you approve.
This is how attention works.
Natural Principle:
What you like determines where your time goes.
Life Check:
What occupies most of your time reveals what you truly approve.
3. Socially: Likes Shape Culture and community
Socially, “likes” give approval. They validate behavior. They normalize attitudes.
When people “like” certain values, society begins to reflect them.
Kingdom Perspective:
If believers like righteousness, love, truth, and integrity — society feels it.
Social Reflection:
What values are you endorsing publicly and privately?
4. Economically: What People Like Attracts Investment
In the marketplace:
Investors fund what people like.
Brands grow around what customers approve.
Institutions adjust to public approval.
Even today, analytics are driven by likes and engagement.
Kingdom Balance:
What Heaven sees you consistently approving, it entrusts you with more of.
Economic Insight:
Faithfulness in values attracts responsibility and opportunity.
5. Emotionally: People Protect What They Like
Emotionally:
You defend what you approve.
You nurture what you love.
You grow attached to what you like.
If you truly like Christ:
His Word convicts you without bitterness.
His correction doesn’t offend you.
His presence calms you.
Emotional Check:
Do you feel resentful or receptive when Jesus corrects you?
6. Character & Habits: Likes Become Lifestyle
What starts as a preference eventually becomes a practice.
What you like shapes habits.
Habits shape character.
Character shapes destiny.
This is why Scripture says your mind must be renewed.
Personal Audit:
Your daily habits are public proof of what you approve privately.
7. Discipleship: You Resemble What You Like
Over time: Disciples begin to sound like, act like, and think like their Master.
If you genuinely like Jesus:
Your speech reflects Him.
Your reactions resemble Him.
Your priorities align with His.
Discipleship Reminder:
Liking Jesus produces resemblance.
