Genesis 16:1–2

"Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian slave named Hagar; so she said to Abram, ‘The Lord has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her.’” (NIV)

🍽️ Author’s Note: From the Kitchen of Life...

I first heard the word surrogate when I stumbled upon a true story from one of our own here in Ghana—a respected media personality. Her womb was removed years ago by a careless doctor. Doctors told her she would never conceive again. For 17 to 18 years, she waited. Then one day, through the miracle of surrogacy, she gave birth to a set of twins.

That story gripped my heart. I didn’t just hear it—I felt it. I searched for the meaning of surrogacy, and it ministered deeply to me. I realized it was more than a medical term—it was a divine metaphor. From that moment, I entered my spiritual kitchen, apron on, heart stirred, and with the Holy Spirit’s help, cooked up this 7-part meal.

🔍The Pain of Delay

Sarai knew God’s promise. She heard it with her ears. But her womb… it stayed silent.

Year after year.

Cycle after cycle.

Tears on her pillow.

Dreams deferred.

Hope bruised.

Sarai’s pain is not foreign to us. Many of us have carried wombs of purpose that haven’t delivered. We know the pain of hearing a word from God and watching the clock tick... while nothing changes. Whether it’s a dream delayed, a vision on hold, or a promise unfulfilled, we know what it's like to wait with an empty womb.

🧠 When Delay Becomes Desperation

Sarai took matters into her own hands. Her suggestion to use Hagar wasn’t faith—it was frustration wrapped in logic. But can we blame her entirely? When you’ve waited long enough, even the best of us begin to recalculate God’s instructions.

Sometimes, the delay isn't to deny you—but to develop you.

God didn’t forget Sarai. He was forming something deeper in her—not just a child, but a lineage of nations. Likewise, God isn't slow concerning His promises in your life. He’s just too wise to let you give birth to something prematurely.

💡 Reflection: Is Your Womb Waiting?

You may not have a physical womb removed or blocked like the media personality I mentioned. But maybe your spiritual womb feels barren.

You’ve carried a vision that refuses to manifest.

You’ve received prophecies that haven’t materialized.

You’re asking: “When, Lord? When?”

🙏 Prayer

Dear God, I confess I don’t always understand Your delays. Sometimes I want to fix it myself. But I trust that Your timing is perfect. Teach me to wait with hope, not fear. Help me not to run ahead, but to rest in Your hands, even when my womb feels empty. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
