WHEN FOLLOWING JESUS COSTS EVERYTHING PART 10: WHAT YOU GAIN WHEN YOU LET GO Mark 10:28–30 (NIV) Then Peter spoke up, “We have left everything to follow you!” “Truly I tell you,” Jesus Christ replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age… and in the age to come eternal life.” In Part 9, we saw that the rich young ruler walked away sad—not because he didn’t understand Jesus, but because he couldn’t surrender. We learned that sorrow without obedience leads to distance from God. Conviction must lead to action, or it will fade into indifference. WHEN FOLLOWING JESUS COSTS EVERYTHING PART 9: WHEN SORROW REPLACES SURRENDER Mark 10:22 (NIV) At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. In Part 8, we saw that love does not lower the standard. Jesus Christ loved the rich young ruler, yet still confronted the one thing he needed to surrender. God’s love corrects—because it desires transformation. Opening Thought   Not all sorrow leads to change. Some sorrow leads to retreat. It is possible to feel deeply convicted… and still walk away unchanged. Key Phrase “He went away sad…” Insight 🔍 The rich young ruler did not argue with Jesus Christ. He did not reject Him openly. He did not debate the instruction. He simply… walked away. And the Bible says: He went away sad.  Why sad? Because: He understood what Jesus was asking. He felt the weight of it.
