THE UNPROFITABLE PROFIT: GAINS THAT BANKRUPT THE SOUL

PART 9: THE GREAT SEPARATION — WHEN GAIN AND SOUL PART WAYS

Luke 16:26

“Between us and you a great gulf is fixed…”

In Part 8, we were confronted with the reality of the final account. We learned that: A day is coming when every life will be reviewed. Success, wealth, and recognition cannot speak in eternity. Only the condition of your soul will matter. You don’t carry your achievements into eternity… you carry your soul.

There is a moment… when everything separates. Not gradually. Not partially. But completely. A line is drawn—not by man… but by eternity. And in that moment, everything you built, gathered, and celebrated…stays on one side. And you… move to the other.

The Great Separation — When Gain And Soul Part Ways

There is a separation that no one can escape. A moment where: Wealth cannot follow. Fame cannot cross. Influence cannot speak. Because eternity is not entered with possessions…it is entered with your soul. And once that separation happens: What you lived for… and where you end up… must agree.

Two Endings

There were two men who lived in the same city. One was widely known. He had influence, wealth, and recognition. His life was visible, celebrated, and admired. The other lived quietly. He was not known by many. No major recognition. No loud achievements. But he guarded something carefully—his soul.

Time passed. One day… both lives ended. On earth, the first man’s passing shook many. His name trended. His accomplishments were remembered. The second man’s passing was quiet. Few spoke. Little was said. But beyond that moment… everything changed. Because in eternity, the separation was clear. The things that made one man great on earth…had no voice there. And the things the other man protected quietly… spoke loudly there.

One had everything… but lost his soul. The other seemed to have little… but preserved his soul. And in that place, the difference was not small… It was eternal.

What Really Happened?

This is the truth of the great separation: Earth measures success by accumulation. Eternity measures by preservation. One man gained the world…but had nothing to carry beyond it. The other guarded his soul…and had everything that mattered. Because when the separation happens:

Your bank account stays. Your achievements stay. Your titles stay. But your soul… continues. And what you prioritized on earth… determines where you stand in eternity.

The Hard Truth

Many are preparing for life…but not for what comes after. Many are building what cannot follow them…and neglecting what must. Because the greatest loss is not losing things…it is losing your soul at the point of no return.

Reflection

Ask yourself:

If everything I have stays behind, what do I truly have?

Am I investing more in what I will leave… or what I will carry?

If the separation happened today, where would I stand?

Because one day, everything will separate…

and only your soul will remain with you.

Call to Action

Shift your focus.

Value your soul above your success.

Prioritize eternity over temporary gain.

Live in a way that prepares you for what is ahead.

Do not wait until separation reveals what you ignored.

Prayer

Lord, help me to live with eternity in view. Teach me to prioritize my soul above all else. Where I have invested in what cannot follow me, realign me. Let my life reflect wisdom that prepares me for eternity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
