THE MIRACLE YOU MUST WALK AWAY FROM PART 4 — THE MIRACLE YOU MUST WALK AWAY FROM
THE MIRACLE YOU MUST WALK AWAY FROM
PART 4 — THE MIRACLE YOU MUST WALK AWAY FROM
Luke 5:11
“And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.”
Leaving What Works
In Part 3, we discovered that Peter’s greatest revelation was not the fish — it was himself. After encountering Jesus, Peter became aware of his weakness and cried:
“Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” We learned that: divine encounters expose us, insecurity can fight against destiny, and many people fear becoming who God is calling them to be. But Jesus responded to Peter’s fear with purpose:
“Fear not…” God saw beyond Peter’s weakness and saw his future.
The miracle had happened. The nets were full. The boats were overflowing. Business had finally become successful. This was the perfect moment to stay. Yet the Bible says:
“They forsook all, and followed Him.”
This is one of the greatest paradoxes in Scripture. Jesus blessed them…then called them beyond the blessing. Because sometimes: the hardest things to leave are not painful things — but successful things.
1. Not Everything That Works Is Meant To Be Kept Forever
The fishing business was not evil. The boats were not sinful. The fish were not wrong. But there are moments when God calls people beyond what is familiar. Some people remain stuck because they mistake:
comfort for calling, success for assignment, provision for purpose.
Key Insight:
Just because something is working does not mean God wants you to remain there forever.
2. Some Miracles Are Tests Of Attachment
The miracle revealed more than God’s power. It revealed where their hearts were.
Could they walk away from:
comfort, security, familiarity, immediate profit, for the sake of purpose? Sometimes God allows increase to test whether:
we love Him, or we only love what He gives.
Lesson:
If you cannot leave it when God speaks, it may already be controlling you.
3. Good Can Become The Enemy Of God’s Best
Fishing was good. But purpose was greater. Had Peter stayed with the fish:
he may have survived, he may have prospered, he may have remained comfortable. But he would have missed becoming who heaven intended him to be. Many people are not trapped by bad things. They are trapped by lesser things.
Key Insight:
Some blessings become barriers when they stand between you and your calling.
4. True Following Requires Surrender
The Bible says:
“They forsook all…” Following Jesus has always required surrender. Sometimes the call of God may require people to leave behind:
unhealthy relationships, limiting environments, destructive habits, familiar comfort zones, certain opportunities. Not because God wants to reduce your life, but because He wants to reposition it for purpose.
Lesson:
Every higher calling demands a deeper surrender.
Reflection
What is God asking you to release?
Could it be:
an unhealthy attachment,
fear of change,
comfort,
a familiar season,
something good that is competing with something greater?
The disciples left fish and boats behind…but they stepped into destiny.
Sometimes the greatest act of faith is not holding on — but letting go.
Call To Action
Do not allow temporary comfort to cost you eternal purpose.
Ask yourself:
What am I afraid to leave behind?
What has become more important than obedience?
Am I following God completely, or only when it is convenient?
Because some seasons are meant to be appreciated… not permanently occupied.
Prayer
Lord, give me the courage to release anything that stands between me and Your purpose for my life. Help me not to become trapped by comfort, familiarity, or temporary success. Teach me to value Your calling above every attachment. And give me the grace to follow You completely, even when it costs me something. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
