THE MIRACLE YOU MUST WALK AWAY FROM PART 4 — THE MIRACLE YOU MUST WALK AWAY FROM
THE MIRACLE YOU MUST WALK AWAY FROM
PART 3 — THE FEAR OF BECOMING
Luke 5 5:8–10
“Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.”
“Depart From Me, Lord”
In Part 2, we discovered that not every blessing is meant to become a permanent destination. Peter and his companions experienced supernatural increase, yet Jesus still called them beyond the miracle. We learned that: provision is different from purpose, some blessings are only signs, and success can become dangerous when it competes with calling.
The disciples received the miracle, but they refused to let the miracle replace the Master.
Peter had just witnessed the greatest miracle of his career. The nets were overflowing. The boats were sinking with fish. The breakthrough had finally come. Yet instead of celebrating himself, Peter fell before Jesus and said: “Depart from me…” Why?
Because the miracle revealed more than God’s power. It revealed Peter’s condition.
Sometimes when God begins to call us higher, we suddenly become more aware of our weaknesses, flaws, fears, and inadequacies. Many people are not running from failure. They are running from the responsibility of becoming.
1. True Encounters With God Expose Us
Peter saw the miracle, but his focus immediately shifted to himself. In the presence of Jesus, he suddenly recognized: his weakness, his humanity, his imperfection. The closer people come to God, the more aware they become of areas that need transformation.
Key Insight:
God’s presence does not only reveal His greatness — it also reveals our need for Him.
This is why divine encounters often produce:
conviction, humility, surrender.
2. Many People Feel Unworthy Of Their Calling
Peter said: “I am a sinful man…” Notice: Jesus did not call a perfect man.He called a willing man. Many people disqualify themselves because of: past mistakes, insecurity, fear, background, weakness.
But throughout Scripture, God repeatedly used imperfect people: Moses struggled with confidence, Gideon struggled with fear, Jeremiah struggled with inadequacy, Peter struggled with inconsistency.
Lesson:
God does not call the qualified; He qualifies the called.
3. The Fear Of Becoming Can Make People Run
Peter’s words reveal fear. Because deep down, he sensed that this encounter would change his life forever. Becoming is uncomfortable because it demands:
growth, responsibility, surrender, change. Some people prefer familiar struggle over unfamiliar purpose. Why? Because purpose stretches people beyond comfort.
Key Insight:
The greatest enemy of destiny is sometimes the fear of who you are becoming.
4. Jesus Responds To Fear With Purpose
Peter said: “Depart from me…” But Jesus replied: “Fear not…” God did not reject Peter because of his weakness. Instead, Jesus redirected his attention toward purpose:
“From henceforth thou shalt catch men.”
This is powerful. Heaven saw beyond Peter’s fear and saw his future.
Lesson:
God sees who you can become, even when you are struggling to believe it yourself.
Reflection
What if the insecurity you are battling is connected to the greatness God placed inside you?
What if:
your fear,
your hesitation,
your feelings of inadequacy,
…are signs that God is calling you beyond your current identity?
Peter saw a sinful fisherman.
Jesus saw a future fisher of men.
Call To Action
Stop allowing fear to speak louder than God’s calling.
Do not let:
insecurity,
past mistakes,
weakness,
fear of failure,
…convince you to run from destiny.
Because God is not looking for perfect people.
He is looking for surrendered people.
Prayer
Lord, help me not to run from the calling You have placed upon my life. Heal every insecurity, fear, and feeling of inadequacy within me. Teach me to see myself through Your purpose and not merely through my weaknesses. Give me the courage to embrace the person You are calling me to become. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
