PART 6: THE SECRET MESSAGE FROM GOD

Judges 3:20 (NLT)

"Ehud walked over to Eglon, who was sitting alone in a cool upstairs room, and Ehud said, 'I have a message from God for you!' As King Eglon rose from his seat..."

In Part 5, we saw Ehud dismiss his companions, return alone to King Eglon, and request a private audience by saying, "I have a secret message for you." The king immediately dismissed his attendants, believing he was about to receive confidential information.

But once the room was empty, Ehud's words changed. He no longer spoke of a secret message. He declared,

"I have a message from God for you."

That single statement transformed the atmosphere.

This was no longer a private conversation between two men. It became a divine appointment between a holy God and a rebellious king.

A Secret To Man, But Not To God

To Eglon, the message was secret because no one else knew it. But to God, it was never a secret. God had seen eighteen years of oppression.

He had heard Israel's cries.

He had raised a deliverer.

He had prepared the weapon.

He had arranged the timing.

Nothing that happened in that upper room surprised Heaven. What seems hidden from people is always visible to God.

As the psalmist declares,

"O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me." (Psalm 139:1, NLT)

God is never caught by surprise.

When God Has A Message, He Also Has A Messenger

Ehud did not appoint himself. God raised him. He did not speak his own words. He carried God's message.

Throughout Scripture, God has always raised men and women to communicate His heart.

Noah warned a corrupt generation.

Moses confronted Pharaoh.

Nathan confronted David.

John the Baptist confronted Herod.

The apostles preached Christ.

Above all, Jesus Christ came as the perfect revelation of the Father.

God still speaks today. Sometimes through preaching. Sometimes through His written Word. Sometimes through the conviction of the Holy Spirit.

The question is never whether God is speaking. The question is whether we are listening.

The Message Demanded A Response

The Bible says,

"As King Eglon rose from his seat..."

Whether he stood out of respect, curiosity, or royal custom, the result was the same.

He stood. When God's Word comes, neutrality is impossible.

Every message from God demands a response. Some people respond with repentance. Others respond with resistance.

Some humble themselves. Others harden their hearts. But no one encounters God's Word and remains unchanged.

God's Word Comforts And Confronts

We often celebrate the comforting promises of Scripture.

God's peace.

God's mercy.

God's love.

And rightly so. But the same Word that comforts the broken also confronts sin. God's message heals those who repent. It warns those who rebel.

Hebrews reminds us that God's Word exposes what is hidden within us.

It reveals our motives. It uncovers our hearts. Before God changes our circumstances, He often begins by confronting our condition.

The Greatest Secret Message Today

Today, God's greatest message is no longer hidden. It has been revealed in Jesus Christ. The Gospel declares that sinners can receive forgiveness through His death and resurrection.

It calls us to repent.

To believe.

To follow Him.

That message is available to kings and servants alike.

To the rich and the poor.

To the strong and the weak.

No one is excluded from God's invitation.

Practical Lessons

1. God sees what is hidden from man.

Nothing escapes His knowledge or His timing.

2. God always raises messengers for His purposes.

He still uses surrendered people to proclaim His truth.

3. Every message from God requires a response.

Ignoring God's voice is itself a decision.

4. God's Word both comforts and confronts.

It heals the humble and challenges the rebellious.

Prayer

1. Father, give me a heart that is sensitive to Your voice and willing to obey Your Word without hesitation.

2. Lord Jesus, remove every distraction, pride, and stubbornness that keeps me from responding to Your message.

3. Father, let Your Word search my heart, expose everything that is not pleasing to You, and transform me into the image of Christ.

4. Lord, make me a faithful messenger who speaks Your truth with wisdom, humility, love, and boldness.

5. Father, help me never to treat Your Word as ordinary information, but as the living voice that guides, corrects, restores, and gives life.
