THE REDEMPTIVE POWER OF GOD: ELISHA AND THE WIDOW'S JAR OF OIL PART 5: THE DISCIPLINE OF THE SECRET PLACE — WHEN MIRACLES REQUIRE CLOSED DOORS
2 Corinthians 4:8–9
“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed... struck down, but not destroyed.”
Previously: In Part 5, we explored how to run the race of life with purpose and endurance across all aspects of our journey—spiritual, academic, physical, financial, and personal. Today, we’re stepping into the reality of obstacles and learning how to overcome them like a soldier hopping through adversity.
Frogger. That was the drill. Imagine recruits or trainees hopping like frogs with heavy luggage on their heads. To the untrained eye, it may seem like punishment, but within it lies a powerful truth—life is filled with obstacles, and how you respond to them determines how far you go.
These frog jumps were no joke. They tested leg strength, mental focus, balance, and perseverance. Spiritually, mentally, and emotionally, life will throw hurdles your way. But like these frogger drills, you’re not called to quit—you’re called to hop over them with power, persistence, and poise.
The frogger movement is unnatural. It burns. It breaks your rhythm. That’s exactly how obstacles show up in life—uncomfortable and demanding.
In training, recruits or trainees couldn’t afford to fall. Anyone whose luggage dropped faced severe punishment. Likewise, in life, how we handle our "baggage" under pressure reflects the maturity we carry.
Life will challenge:
Your faith: moments when prayers seem unanswered.
Your academics: assignments that pile up like mountains.
Your finances: tight budgets, emergencies, and unexpected needs.
Your health: moments of weakness or burnout.
Your relationships: when friends or family let you down.
But the call remains the same: Keep moving. Keep hopping. Over every obstacle.
Hopping Over Life’s Obstacles:
Spiritual: Hop over doubt, discouragement, and temptation by standing on God’s Word.
Physical: Overcome fatigue by building consistent health habits.
Academic: Bounce over academic pressure with discipline and support systems.
Financial: Leap over debt and lack through wise budgeting and faith-based stewardship.
Mental: Clear mental hurdles with truth, therapy, rest, and trusted counsel.
Social: Navigate difficult people and relationships by setting boundaries and showing grace.
In 2 Corinthians 4:8–9, Paul writes, “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed... struck down, but not destroyed.” That is the spirit of a soldier—and a believer.
REFLECTION:
What obstacles are in your way right now? Are you frozen by them or hopping over them with faith and strategy?
Spiritual: Are you allowing temptation to derail your walk, or are you rising with prayer and the Word?
Academic: Are you letting fear of failure stop you, or are you seeking help and taking initiative?
Financial: Are financial worries overwhelming you, or are you taking intentional steps toward stewardship?
Physical: Are you prioritizing your health, or ignoring signs of burnout?
Mental/Social: Are you processing pain healthily, or bottling it up?
Take one bold leap this week:
Face that one fear or challenge you’ve been avoiding.
Start a journal to track obstacles and how you’re overcoming them.
Surround yourself with people who encourage your “leaps.”
Pray about one specific hurdle and commit it to God.
PRAYER:
Lord, life is full of obstacles, but with You, I can leap over every wall. Strengthen me to keep moving forward in faith, discipline, and boldness. Help me to carry my responsibilities without dropping them, even under pressure. Teach me to hop through adversity and never to give up. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I'm pressed down but not crushed, persecuted not abandoned. Struck down but not destroyed, just as the song says. Amen!
