THE REDEMPTIVE POWER OF GOD: ELISHA AND THE WIDOW'S JAR OF OIL PART 5: THE DISCIPLINE OF THE SECRET PLACE — WHEN MIRACLES REQUIRE CLOSED DOORS 2 KINGS 4:4-5 In Part 4, we learned that miracles often involve movement, obedience, and action. The widow was instructed to go out, borrow vessels, and gather what was needed. We saw that God’s instructions often require participation, and that obedience is a key that unlocks divine provision. Now the story moves from the outside world into the inside space of encounter. After the vessels were gathered, something very significant happens in the process of the miracle. The next instruction is not about movement—but about isolation. God begins to shift the widow from public obedience to private encounter. In 2 Kings 4:4-5, Elisha gives a new instruction: “ Go in and shut the door behind you and your sons … ” This moment is deeply spiritual. Before the oil flows, the door must be closed. This teaches us that some dimensions of God’s power are ...

PART 12: COMPANIONS IN THE HEAT – THE POWER OF SHARED STRENGTH

TAKING THE CIVILIAN OUT OF YOU: A JOURNEY OF TRANSFORMATION
PART 12: COMPANIONS IN THE HEAT – THE POWER OF SHARED STRENGTH

2 Timothy 2:3

''Endure hardship as a good soldier of Christ

Jesus”

Welcome to Part 12 of our series, Taking the Civilian Out of You: The Journey to Discipline and Transformation.

In Part 11, we stood face-to-face with hunger, thirst, and emptiness—and we saw how survival in such moments is driven not by food, but by purpose. Now we take a step further—into the heart of brotherhood, where one soldier's strength becomes another’s lifeline.

When You're Not Strong Enough Alone

After one of the rigorous drills, it was time to hit the road again—this time, running. Conrad found himself falling behind. His body was screaming, his strength giving out. Ahead of him, his companion—my best friend, Charlespushed forward, not out of selfishness, but because he was struggling too.

Then came the shift. "We’re singing our way through!" he said. With military JAMA chants, they sang, they breathed, they pushed. The finish line wasn’t just a goal—it became their shared destination.

When My Strength Runs Low, Yours Can Carry Us

At about 50 steps to the finish line, Conrad’s companion, Charles was on the verge of giving up. But Conrad had made a decision: "You’re not giving up now. We’ve come too far."

He forgot about his own pain and focused on pulling his brother through. That is what discipline birthsselflessness in struggle.

You may be strong today, but tomorrow might be your breaking point. And when it comes, may you find a companion who will not leave you behind.

Reflection: Don’t Run Alone

Here’s what this moment teaches us across life’s arenas:

Spiritually: When your prayer life gets dry, let a friend pray with and for you. Don’t isolate.

Physically: Fitness journeys are easier with accountability partners.

Financially: Sometimes, survival is in the counsel of others who’ve been through worse.

Academically: Study groups save more destinies than lone night owls.

Emotionally: A text from a friend saying “You’ve got this” can stop someone from quitting.

We’re not always called to carry others forever—but sometimes, just long enough to cross that line.

Check on someone who might be falling behind in life’s race.

Be the encourager who sings when others can’t breathe.

Don’t run alone—let your vulnerability attract your helper.

PRAYER

Father, thank You for the gift of companionship in times of struggle. Teach me to be selfless and alert to the needs of those around me. Strengthen me not only for my journey, but so I can help others finish theirs too. Amen.

Next Chapter: Part 13 – Final Lap: The Making of a Soldier

Our next and final part takes us to the conclusion of this series—where we’ll look back and ask: What has all this pain produced?

Part 13 is the Final Lap. The civilian is gone. The soldier is born.

📌Let’s Talk:

Who has helped you keep going when you felt like quitting? What did they do or say that made the difference? Or, have you ever helped someone else finish their “race”?

Let’s keep the conversation alive.

  1. Lesson : Being strong does not mean you won't struggle. It is important to have good people who will support you when situations get tough .
