WHAT ARE YOU FEEDING THE NEXT GENERATION? PART 3: WHAT IS FLOWING OUT OF YOU? Matthew 12:34 (NLT) “For whatever is in your heart determines what you say.” In Part 1, we asked: WHAT ARE YOU FEEDING YOURSELF? We discovered that what we consume matters because what we feed can grow. In Part 2, we moved deeper and asked: WHAT HAPPENS INSIDE YOU? We learned that receiving something is not the same as being transformed by it. What enters us must be processed. The Word of God must move from our ears into our hearts, our thoughts, our decisions and eventually our lifestyle. Now we move to the next question: WHAT IS FLOWING OUT OF YOU? Because whatever is happening inside you will eventually find a way out.  PRESERVING OUR INTEGRITY: BEING THE SALT OF THE EARTH PART 12

Matthew 5:13

"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot."

Welcome to part 12 of our Series, Preserving our Integrity: Being the Salt of the Earth. In our previous devotion, we explored how Christians can lose their saltiness through compromise, neglect of spiritual disciplines, and fear of persecution. We examined the tragic examples of Ananias and Sapphira, the church in Ephesus, and early believers who denied their faith under persecution. These examples reminded us that maintaining our distinctiveness and integrity as followers of Christ is crucial to preserving our influence in the world.


The Consequences of Losing Our Saltiness

Jesus warns in Matthew 5:13:

"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot."

To be "trampled underfoot" means to be disregarded, devalued, or treated as worthless. Just as tasteless salt is discarded, a Christian who loses their integrity loses their ability to positively impact the world.


How Losing Our Saltiness Affects Us

1. Harmful Impact on Ourselves and Others.

Metaphor of Expired Salt: Losing your saltiness is like being an expired product—no longer effective and possibly even harmful. A Christian without integrity not only loses their personal peace but may also mislead others.


Personal Consequences: A compromised believer may struggle with guilt, shame, and spiritual stagnation.


Relational Consequences: Integrity is the foundation of trust. When lost, it can damage friendships, marriages, and community ties.


Community Consequences: Just as tasteless salt is discarded, a Christian who lacks integrity may lose credibility and influence, making it difficult to lead or inspire others toward Christ.


By maintaining our integrity, we preserve our effectiveness as Christians and continue to positively influence those around us.


REFLECTION:

Are there areas in your life where you have compromised your integrity? Are you allowing worldly influences to dull your spiritual impact? Jesus calls us to remain steadfast, guarding our hearts and minds so that we do not lose our saltiness.


Take time today to examine your spiritual walk. Renew your commitment to prayer, studying God's Word, and living with integrity. Seek accountability from trusted believers and ask God to restore any lost influence in your life.


PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, please help me to preserve my integrity so that I may continue to be effective witness of Your love and truth. Keep me from compromise, strengthen me in trials, and renew my commitment to living out my faith daily. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

    As a Christian, I must strive to keep my saltiness (integrity), because it helps in bringing those of the world to Christ.
