THE REDEMPTIVE POWER OF GOD: ELISHA AND THE WIDOW'S JAR OF OIL PART 5: THE DISCIPLINE OF THE SECRET PLACE — WHEN MIRACLES REQUIRE CLOSED DOORS 2 KINGS 4:4-5 In Part 4, we learned that miracles often involve movement, obedience, and action. The widow was instructed to go out, borrow vessels, and gather what was needed. We saw that God’s instructions often require participation, and that obedience is a key that unlocks divine provision. Now the story moves from the outside world into the inside space of encounter. After the vessels were gathered, something very significant happens in the process of the miracle. The next instruction is not about movement—but about isolation. God begins to shift the widow from public obedience to private encounter. In 2 Kings 4:4-5, Elisha gives a new instruction: “ Go in and shut the door behind you and your sons … ” This moment is deeply spiritual. Before the oil flows, the door must be closed. This teaches us that some dimensions of God’s power are ...

JUMPSTARTING YOUR LIFE—THE POWER OF DIVINE CONNECTIONS PART 9: WHEN DELAYS LEADS TO A DIVINE APPOINTMENT

THE STORY: A DELAYED JOURNEY

Romans 1:11-12 (NIV)

"I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong—that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.

Welcome to Part 9 of our series, Jumpstarting Your Life: The Power of Divine Connection.

In part 8, we explored how some opportunities come disguised as challenges, and the right connections can help us recognize and seize them.

Part 9: When Delays Lead to Divine Appointments

Sometimes, what seems like an inconvenient delay is actually a divine setup for something greater. Have you ever been stuck somewhere only to realize later that it was a blessing in disguise?

THE STORY: A DELAYED JOURNEY

One evening, as I was preparing to go out, it started raining heavily. I decided to wait for the rain to subside. As I watched from my window, I noticed a neighbor struggling to start his car. The engine wouldn’t turn over, and he was getting frustrated.

Just then, another tenant, who had been delayed by the rain, came outside. Seeing the man’s struggle, he offered his help. Since he had the right tools, he was able to diagnose the issue and help jumpstart the car. If the rain hadn’t delayed him, he wouldn’t have been there to assist.

Lessons from the Story

1. God’s Timing is Perfect

Sometimes, what we see as a delay is actually God orchestrating things for our good. If the helper hadn’t been delayed, he wouldn’t have been there at the right time. “All things work together for good…” Romans 8:28

2. Your Delay Might Be Someone Else’s Answer

Just like the tenant’s delay positioned him to help his neighbor, sometimes God allows us to wait because He is setting us up to be a blessing to someone else.

3. Divine Appointments Happen in Unexpected Ways

That neighbor wasn’t planning to be a helper that day. He was just responding to the situation. Often, God leads us to places and people we didn’t expect to impact.

Not every delay is a denial. Some delays are divine appointments in disguise. Instead of being frustrated, we should ask, “Lord, what are You setting up for me in this moment?”

REFLECTION

Have you ever been delayed, only to realize later that it was for a good reason?

How can you start seeing delays as opportunities for divine connections?

PRAYER

Father, help me to trust Your timing. When things don’t go as planned, remind me that You are working behind the scenes. Open my eyes to divine appointments, and use me as a blessing to others. In Jesus' name, Amen.

COMING NEXT: PART 10 - THE FINAL LAP

In our final part, we will explore the ultimate breakthrough that comes from divine connections and how to maintain these blessings long-term. Stay tuned!
