PARTNERING WITH THE LORD OF THE HARVEST PART 4: THE WORKERS ARE FEW

PARTNERING WITH THE LORD OF THE HARVEST  PART 4: THE WORKERS ARE FEW  Luke 10:2b continues:  "...but the workers are few." Key Thought : The greatest limitation in God’s harvest is not the readiness of people but the availability of workers. In Part 3, we saw that Jesus described the world as a plentiful harvest, meaning that God has already been at work in people’s hearts and many are ready to receive the gospel. The challenge, therefore, is not the field but the workforce. Scripture Focus Luke 10:2b continues: "...but the workers are few." With this statement, Jesus shifts attention from opportunity to responsibility. The problem is not that there are no people to reach, but that there are not enough people willing to go. What This Reveals About the Lord of the Harvest By calling believers workers, Jesus emphasizes that participating in God’s mission requires effort, commitment, and sacrifice. Harvesting is labor-intensive. It involves time, patience, and persever...

PARTNERING WITH THE LORD OF THE HARVEST PART 2: SENT AHEAD OF HIM

PARTNERING WITH THE LORD OF THE HARVEST

PART 2: SENT AHEAD OF HIM

 Luke 10:1b

Key Thought: True partnership with the Lord of the harvest means preparing the way for His presence, not replacing Him.

In Part 1, we saw that partnership with the Lord of the harvest begins with God’s initiative. He is the One who appoints, sends, and directs His workers. Believers do not create the mission; they join the work that God has already planned.

Scripture Focus

Luke 10:1b says that the Lord sent the seventy-two "ahead of Him to every town and place where He was about to go."

This reveals that the disciples were not the main attraction—Jesus was. Their assignment was to prepare hearts and communities for an encounter with Him.

What It Means to Be Sent Ahead of the Lord

To be sent ahead means to act as a forerunner—someone who prepares the environment for another’s arrival. The disciples entered towns before Jesus arrived so that when He came, the people were already informed, expectant, and receptive.

This shows that evangelism is not about drawing people to ourselves but about leading them toward Christ.

Lessons About Partnering with the Lord of the Harvest

1. We prepare; God transforms. The disciples could preach and heal, but only the Lord could ultimately change hearts.

2. We are messengers, not the message. Their role was to point people forward to the One who was coming after them.

3. God plans divine visitations. Jesus already knew which towns He would visit. This means the mission field is not random—God has a plan for where His presence will be revealed.

Practical Application Today

Believers today are still sent ahead of the Lord in different ways:

through sharing the gospel

through acts of kindness and service

through living lives that reflect Christ’s character

Often, people encounter Christians before they fully encounter Christ. Our words, attitudes, and actions can either prepare them to receive Him or make them resistant to Him.

Reflection Questions

Do my actions make it easier or harder for people to receive Christ?

Am I pointing people to Jesus, or am I unintentionally drawing attention to myself?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, help me to live in such a way that I prepare the way for Your presence in the lives of others. Let my words, actions, and attitudes point people toward You and not toward myself. Use me as a faithful forerunner of Your grace. Amen.

Next Part Preview

In Part 3, we will explore Jesus’ statement: "The harvest is plentiful," and what it reveals about how God sees the world and the readiness of people to receive the gospel.

God is speaking, are you listening?
