BEFORE YOU LEAVE EARTH: THE PROSPECTUS YOU CANNOT IGNORE PART 3: WHAT DOES THE PROSPECTUS REQUIRE? MATTHEW 7:21 (NLT) “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.” In Part 1, we discovered that life has a destination beyond the grave. Hebrews 9:27 tells us: “ And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment. ” We learned that the Bible is like God's prospectus for earthly life and eternity. In Part 2, we went one step further and asked: Who wrote the prospectus? We discovered that the Bible is not merely a collection of human opinions. It is God's inspired Word. 2 Timothy 3:16 says: “ All Scripture is inspired by God. ” If God is the Author, then His instructions deserve our attention. But now comes the next important question: What does the prospectus require? Because having a prospectus is one thing. Following its requirements is another....

BEFORE YOU LEAVE EARTH: THE PROSPECTUS YOU CANNOT IGNORE

PART 1: THE REVELATION BEHIND THE PROSPECTUS


Hebrews 9:27 (NLT)

“And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment.”


A young man gained admission into a senior high school in Ghana. The admission comes with excitement. A new chapter is about to begin.

But before he settles into the school, he is told: “Go for your prospectus.”

The prospectus contains important information about the school—what the student needs, the rules to follow, the expectations, the requirements, and how to conduct himself while there.

Why?

Because admission is not the end of preparation. Admission is the beginning of preparation. And that thought brought me to a deeper question:

If we prepare so carefully for a few years in school, what are we doing to prepare for eternity?

That is where this message begins.

WHAT IS A PROSPECTUS?

Simply put, a prospectus is a guide that tells you what you need to know before entering or participating in something.

A school prospectus tells a student what is required for school life.

A company prospectus provides important information about an organization, its purpose, operations, expectations, and what people should understand before engaging with it.

In both cases, the purpose is preparation.

And then comes the spiritual revelation:

If earthly institutions provide information to prepare people for earthly participation, has God provided information to prepare us for eternity?

Yes.

God has not left humanity without instructions.

WHERE IS THE PROSPECTUS FOR ETERNITY?

The answer is:

The Word Of God.

The Bible reveals:

Who God is

Who we are.

Why we are here.

How God wants us to live.

What happens after death.

And the way of salvation through Jesus Christ.

So, in this analogy:

The Bible is our eternal prospectus.

But there is an important difference.

A school prospectus may prepare you for a few years. A company prospectus may prepare you for an earthly opportunity. God's Word prepares us for eternity.

And eternity is not four years. It is forever.

THE PROSPECTUS HAS A WARNING

Our anchor Scripture says

“It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”

There is an appointment attached to every earthly life. Death is not the end of the story

There is an “after this.”

After this life comes judgment.

Therefore, the question is not merely:

“Am I enjoying life?”

The deeper question is:

“Am I preparing for what comes after life?”

THE PROSPECTUS SHOWS TWO DESTINATIONS

The Bible does not only tell us that eternity exists. It warns us that eternity has consequences.

Jesus spoke about the narrow way that leads to life and the broad way that leads to destruction in Matthew 7:13–14.

So the prospectus does not merely tell us where we want to go. It shows us the way.

It tells us what to believe.

It tells us how to live.

It warns us about what to avoid.

And most importantly, it points us to Jesus Christ, God's provision for our salvation.

THE DANGER OF IGNORING THE PROSPECTUS

Imagine receiving a school prospectus but never opening it. You arrive at school without knowing what to bring. You don't know the rules. You don't know the requirements. You don't know what is expected of you.

Eventually, you discover that the information was available—but you ignored it. Sadly, many people are doing the same thing with eternity.

The Bible is available.

The Gospel is being preached.

God's Word is speaking.

Yet some people are living as though there will never be an examination of how they lived. But Hebrews 9:27 reminds us:

There is an appointment we cannot cancel.

LESSONS TO LEARN

1. LIFE IS A PREPARATION PERIOD

We are not here forever.Our time on earth is limited.

2. GOD HAS NOT LEFT US WITHOUT INSTRUCTIONS

His Word gives us the direction we need.

3. KNOWING THE PROSPECTUS IS NOT ENOUGH

Just as a student must follow the school prospectus, we must respond to God's Word with faith and obedience.

4. ETERNITY SHOULD INFLUENCE HOW WE LIVE TODAY

What we believe about eternity should affect our choices, relationships, priorities, and character.

5. DON'T WAIT UNTIL DEPARTURE TO PREPARE

The time to prepare for eternity is while we are still here.

KEY TAKEAWAY

You don't collect a prospectus on the day you leave school. You collect it before you begin.

Likewise, don't wait until you leave earth before you begin thinking about eternity.

The prospectus has already been given.

The question is: 

Have you read it?

And more importantly: 

Are you living by it?

CALL TO ACTION

Today, take a moment and examine your life.

Have you opened God's Word?

Do you know what God requires?

Have you trusted Christ?

Is your life being shaped by what you are reading?

Don't simply own the Bible. Read it.

Don't simply read it. Believe it.

Don't simply believe it. Live it.

Because one day, the earthly journey will end. And there will be an “after this.”

PRAYER

1. Father, open my eyes to understand that my life on earth is preparation for eternity.

2. Lord, give me a hunger for Your Word, that I may not possess the prospectus without reading and understanding it.

3. Holy Spirit, help me to obey what I learn, and not merely hear God's Word without allowing it to transform my life.

4. Father, examine my heart and my ways, and reveal anything in my life that is not preparing me for eternity.

5. Lord Jesus, help me to be ready, so that when my earthly journey ends, I will be found in You.

If the Bible is the prospectus for eternity, then an important question follows:

Who is the Author?

Can we trust Him?

Why did He give us this prospectus?

And what does He want us to understand about the destination He has prepared?
