PART 12: FINAL LAP- WHEN GOD CONFIRMS WHAT YOU THOUGHT WAS IMPOSSIBLE

Acts 10:44–48 (NLT)

“Even as Peter was saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the message. The Jewish believers who came with Peter were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles, too. For they heard them speaking in other tongues and praising God. Then Peter asked, ‘Can anyone object to their being baptized, now that they have received the Holy Spirit just as we did?’ So he gave orders for them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Afterward Cornelius asked him to stay with them for several days.”

In Part 11, we discovered that God can interrupt the message with His supernatural confirmation.

Peter was preaching about Jesus. He was speaking about His death, resurrection, lordship, and forgiveness.

But before Peter could finish his message, the Holy Spirit fell upon everyone who was listening.

God interrupted Peter's sermon.

Not to replace the Word. But to confirm it.

The people who were listening received the Holy Spirit. And now something happened that Peter and the Jewish believers with him could never have manufactured.

God confirmed that the Gospel was for the Gentiles too.

The journey that began with a sheet had finally reached its destination. But this final moment teaches us something even greater:

Sometimes God will confirm His Word in a way that completely destroys the limitations of our previous understanding.

THE PEOPLE WITH PETER WERE AMAZED

Acts 10:45 says:

“The Jewish believers who came with Peter were amazed...”

Why were they amazed?

Because something happened that challenged their expectations.

They had been raised with certain boundaries.

They understood the promises of God through the Jewish experience.

But now they were witnessing Gentiles receiving the same gift of the Holy Spirit.

God was doing something they had not expected.

GOD WAS BREAKING A MENTAL BARRIER

Peter had already experienced his mindset being challenged.

But now the other Jewish believers were witnessing the same thing.

God was not simply changing Peter.

He was teaching the entire Church.

The Gospel was crossing a boundary that human beings had maintained for generations.

The Gentiles were not second-class recipients.

They were not outsiders waiting for permission.

God Himself was showing that they could receive the Holy Spirit through faith in Christ.

What people had considered impossible, God was making undeniable.

THE HOLY SPIRIT FELL ON THE GENTILES

The Bible says:

“The gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles, too.”

That word “too” is powerful.

It means:

The same gift.

The same Spirit.

The same God.

The same salvation.

The same grace.

God was showing Peter and the believers that His kingdom was bigger than their previous understanding.

God was not creating two classes of believers. He was bringing them together through Christ.

THE EVIDENCE WAS VISIBLE

The believers heard the Gentiles speaking in other tongues and praising God.

There was evidence that something had happened.

Peter did not have to convince everyone.

God had already demonstrated it.

Sometimes God will do something so clear that arguments become unnecessary.

When God confirms His Word, human limitations have to step aside.

PETER HAD TO MAKE A DECISION

Peter asked:

“Can anyone object to their being baptized, now that they have received the Holy Spirit just as we did?”

This question is significant.

Peter was now defending the very people he might once have kept at a distance.

The transformation was complete.

The man who once struggled with the concept of clean and unclean was now saying:

“Can anyone object?”

God had changed Peter's perspective.

And now Peter was willing to stand for what God had revealed.

WHEN GOD CHANGES YOU, YOUR POSITION CHANGES

At the beginning of this journey, Peter was reluctant.

Now he was advocating.

At the beginning, Peter was questioning.

Now he was explaining.

At the beginning, Peter was separating.

Now he was connecting.

At the beginning, Peter saw barriers.

Now he saw brothers and sisters.

That's what divine transformation looks like.

God doesn't simply change what you believe. He changes how you behave.

THE SHEET WAS NEVER REALLY ABOUT THE SHEET

Now we can finally understand the whole story.

Peter saw a sheet.

He saw animals.

He heard:

“Arise, Peter; kill and eat.”

But the real lesson was deeper.

God was saying:

“Peter, I am about to take you somewhere your old mindset would never allow you to go.”

The sheet was preparation.

Cornelius was the assignment.

The Gentiles were the harvest.

The Holy Spirit was the confirmation.

And Jesus was the center of it all.

The sheet was not the destination. The sheet was the preparation for the mission.

GOD MAY USE STRANGE INSTRUCTIONS TO PREPARE YOU FOR A GREAT ASSIGNMENT

Sometimes God gives us instructions that do not make sense immediately.

You may wonder:

“Why is God asking me to do this?”

But later, the purpose becomes clear.

The instruction may be preparing your mind.

Preparing your heart.

Preparing your character.

Preparing your relationships.

Preparing you for people you have not yet met.

Preparing you for a ministry you have not yet entered.

Don't reject an instruction simply because you don't understand the full picture.

PETER HAD TO DIE TO HIS OLD MINDSET

Peter's journey was not only about going somewhere. It was about becoming someone different.

The old Peter had boundaries.

The transformed Peter had compassion.

The old Peter saw Gentiles as outsiders.

The transformed Peter saw them as people God was reaching.

The old Peter would have hesitated.

The transformed Peter obeyed.

Sometimes before God expands your territory, He must first expand your thinking.

GOD CAN TAKE YOU BEYOND YOUR PERSONAL LIMITATIONS

There are things we may believe God can never do. Not because God cannot do them.

But because our experience has become the boundary of our expectation.

We say:

“It has never happened before.”

“People like this don't change.”

“That person will never come to Christ.”

“This situation is impossible.”

“God cannot use someone like me.”

Acts 10 reminds us:

God is not limited by your previous experience.

DON'T TURN YOUR EXPERIENCE INTO GOD'S LIMITATION

Peter had never seen Gentiles receive the Holy Spirit in this way.

That did not mean God could not do it.

It simply meant Peter had never seen it before.

There is a difference.

“I have never seen God do this” does not mean “God cannot do this.”

Your history is not God's limit.

Your culture is not God's limit.

Your denomination is not God's limit.

Your previous experience is not God's limit.

God remains God beyond the boundaries of what you have experienced.

THE GENTILES WERE NOT WAITING FOR HUMAN APPROVAL

God did not ask Peter for permission before giving them the Holy Spirit. He simply did it.

Then Peter had to respond to what God had already done. This is humbling.

Sometimes God will move first and then require you to adjust your theology, your assumptions, or your expectations around what He has done.

Don't ask God to fit inside your understanding.

Ask God to expand your understanding to accommodate His truth.

THE CHURCH HAD TO CATCH UP WITH GOD

God was already doing something new.

The believers had to recognize it. This happens sometimes in the life of the Church.

God begins moving. Then people begin asking questions.

God opens a door. Then people start debating whether the door should exist.

God reaches someone. Then people wonder whether that person belongs.

Acts 10 teaches us:

When God opens the kingdom door, human prejudice must not close it.

PETER DID NOT KEEP THE GENTILES AT THE DOOR

He allowed them to be baptized.

Why?

Because they had received the Holy Spirit.

Peter recognized what God had done.

He did not create another barrier.

He did not say:

“You have received the Spirit, but you still need to become like us first.”

He understood that salvation was God's work. Grace had already crossed the boundary.

CORNELIUS ASKED PETER TO STAY

The chapter ends with Cornelius asking Peter to stay with them for several days.

Look at the transformation. Peter entered the house as a stranger. He stayed as a brother.

The man who might once have been considered an outsider was now welcoming Peter into his home. God had turned a boundary into a fellowship. 

That is what the Gospel does.

It reconciles.

It brings people together.

It destroys unnecessary walls.

It creates a new family.

THE GOSPEL DOES NOT JUST CHANGE INDIVIDUALS

Cornelius' household was affected.

Peter was affected.

The Jewish believers were affected.

The early Church was affected.

One encounter had consequences far beyond one house.

This is why obedience matters.

You may be one obedient decision away from becoming part of something much bigger than yourself.

WHAT STARTED ON A ROOFTOP ENDED IN A HOUSEHOLD

Peter went to the rooftop to pray.

God gave him a vision.

Peter resisted.

God corrected him.

The sheet was lowered.

The men arrived.

Peter went with them.

He entered the Gentile house.

He preached Jesus.

The Holy Spirit fell.

The Gentiles received the Spirit.

And the Gospel crossed another major boundary.

What began as a strange rooftop experience became a historic kingdom breakthrough.

Never underestimate what God can begin with one instruction.

ARISE

The first word was:

ARISE.

Get up.

Move.

Leave where you are.

Don't remain stuck.

There are moments when God is calling you out of spiritual inactivity.

Out of fear.

Out of comfort.

Out of limitation.

Out of old thinking.

Arise.

KILL

The second word was:

KILL.

This was not about killing people.

It was about the food in the vision.

But spiritually, the journey teaches us something deeper:

Some mindsets must die.

Some prejudices must die.

Some fears must die.

Some traditions that contradict God's revealed purpose must die.

Some excuses must die.

Some limitations must die.

You cannot enter a new dimension of obedience while protecting every old mindset.

EAT

Then:

EAT.

Receive.

Embrace.

Participate.

Don't merely observe what God is doing.

Become part of it.

Peter had to accept what God was teaching him.

He had to participate in the mission.

He had to enter the house.

He had to speak.

He had to witness.

There comes a time when revelation must become participation.

THE FULL LESSON OF “ARISE, KILL AND EAT”

After twelve parts, we can now see the journey clearly.

ARISE — leave your place of comfort.

KILL — allow God to deal with mindsets and barriers that oppose His purpose.

EAT — receive what God is revealing and participate in His assignment.

Then:

GO.

Go where He sends you.

SPEAK.

Speak what He gives you.

TRUST.

Trust Him with the results.

WATCH.

Watch Him confirm His Word.

HARVEST.

Watch what obedience produces.

THE GREATEST BARRIER MAY BE INSIDE YOU

Peter thought the problem was what was on the sheet.

But God was dealing with what was inside Peter.

This is one of the deepest lessons of the entire series.

Sometimes the thing standing between you and your assignment is not your environment. It is your mindset.

Not your lack of opportunity. Your perception.

Not the people around you. Your prejudice.

Not the closed door.

Your unwillingness to move.

God may be saying:

“I am not only trying to change your location. I am trying to change you.”

YOUR NEXT “CORNELIUS” MAY BE OUTSIDE YOUR COMFORT ZONE

There may be someone God wants you to reach.

Someone you would not naturally approach.

Someone whose background is different.

Someone whose story makes you uncomfortable.

Someone you may have judged.

Someone you may have overlooked.

Someone you may have considered unreachable.

But perhaps God is saying:

“Arise.”

Perhaps He is asking you to kill the mindset that has kept you away.

Perhaps He is asking you to eat—to receive His perspective and embrace His assignment.

Your obedience may become somebody else's doorway to Christ.

GOD IS STILL SAYING, “ARISE”

The series may be ending.

But the instruction continues.

There are places you still need to go.

People you still need to reach.

Mindsets you still need to surrender.

Assignments you still need to obey.

Doors you still need to walk through.

So don't allow this series to remain merely something you read.

Let it become something you live.

Arise.

Kill.

Eat.

Go.

Obey.

Reach.

And trust God.

PRACTICAL LESSONS FROM THE ENTIRE SERIES

1. God may challenge your mindset before He changes your assignment.

Peter needed a new perspective before he could reach Cornelius.

2. Obedience often requires movement.

Peter had to leave Joppa and go.

3. Never allow tradition to become stronger than God's revealed truth.

Peter had to adjust when God showed him something greater.

4. Don't allow unfamiliarity to stop you from obeying God.

The road to Cornelius was unfamiliar, but it was God's road.

5. Spiritual experiences must point back to Jesus and the Word.

The vision, the angelic visitation, and the supernatural signs all pointed toward Christ.

6. Don't worship the vessel.

Peter refused to accept Cornelius' worship.

7. God may already be preparing the people connected to your assignment.

Cornelius had gathered his household before Peter arrived.

8. A prepared heart can turn a message into an encounter.

Cornelius and his household were ready to hear.

9. Trust God with the results of your obedience.

Peter preached, but the Holy Spirit brought the confirmation.

10. Never underestimate what God can do beyond your experience.

The Gentiles receiving the Holy Spirit was beyond Peter's previous understanding.

11. Let God destroy unnecessary barriers.

The Gospel was never meant to be trapped inside human boundaries.

12. Your obedience may become part of something much bigger than you.

Peter's obedience affected Cornelius, his household, the Jewish believers, and ultimately the expansion of the Church.

FINAL KEY TAKEAWAY

“ARISE, KILL AND EAT” was never merely a command about food. It was an invitation to transformation, obedience, and kingdom expansion.

Peter had to arise from his comfort.

He had to kill his old mindset.

He had to receive God's new perspective.

He had to go where God sent him.

He had to enter a house he would once have avoided.

He had to preach Jesus.

And finally, he had to stand back and watch God do what only God could do.

The sheet came down.

The mindset changed.

The messenger moved.

The Gospel was preached.

The Holy Spirit fell.

The Gentiles received.

The Church expanded.

And a new chapter began.

One man's obedience became a doorway for an entire household. And that is the challenge for us.

What is God asking you to arise from?

What mindset is He asking you to kill?

What is He asking you to receive?

Where is He asking you to go?

Because sometimes your greatest breakthrough is waiting on the other side of an instruction you don't yet understand.

ARISE.

KILL.

EAT.

GO.

OBEY.

And let God handle the harvest.

CALL TO ACTION

Now that we have reached the final lap of ARISE, KILL AND EAT, don't simply close the series. Take the message with you.

Ask yourself:

What has God been asking me to arise from?

What old mindset must die before I can enter my next assignment?

What have I been calling unclean that God is asking me to see differently?

Where is God asking me to go?

Who might be waiting for my obedience?

Am I willing to trust God even when I cannot see the full picture?

And finally:

Am I ready to arise, kill, eat, and go?

Remember:

God may be preparing a Cornelius somewhere while He is preparing you here.

Don't let your comfort become someone else's delay.

Don't let your prejudice become someone's barrier.

Don't let fear cancel your assignment.

Don't let an old mindset keep you from a new dimension.

Arise.

Kill.

Eat.

And go where God sends you.

PRAYER

1. Father, give me the courage to arise from every place of comfort, fear, limitation, and spiritual inactivity that is preventing me from obeying You.

2. Lord, help me to kill every mindset, prejudice, assumption, and limitation that contradicts Your Word and prevents me from seeing people and opportunities through Your eyes.

3. Father, give me a heart that is willing to receive whatever You are teaching me and the humility to change whenever You correct my understanding.

4. Lord Jesus, lead me to the people, places, and assignments You have prepared for me, and give me grace to obey even when the journey is unfamiliar.

5. Father, let my obedience become a doorway through which many people encounter Jesus, receive Your Word, experience Your Spirit, and become part of Your kingdom.

THE JOURNEY MAY BE ENDING, BUT THE ASSIGNMENT CONTINUES

The series may have come to an end.

But the message is still alive.

Somewhere, there is a Cornelius waiting.

Somewhere, there is a prepared household.

Somewhere, there is a door.

Somewhere, there is an assignment.

And perhaps God is saying to you:

“Arise.”

Don't stay on the rooftop forever.

Don't keep arguing with the revelation.

Don't keep protecting the mindset God is trying to remove.

Don't remain where you are simply because it is comfortable.

Get up.

Go.

Speak.

Serve.

Reach.

Obey.

And let God reveal what He has prepared on the other side.

Because Peter saw only a sheet.

God saw Cornelius.

Peter saw animals.

God saw a household.

God saw a Gospel breakthrough.

Peter saw a boundary.

God saw a bridge.

And Peter saw a difficult journey.

God saw a harvest.

Never underestimate what God can do through one obedient person.

Arise.

Kill.

Eat.

And go where God sends you.
