THE STORY: MY LANDLADY’S SON MEETS A STRANDED FRIEND


Romans 1:11-12 (NIV)

"I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong—that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.


Welcome to Part 7 of our Series, Jumpstarting Your Life: The Power of Divine Connection.

 In Part 6, we talked about overheating—pushing too hard without taking time to recharge. Just like a car needs coolant and regular servicing, we need rest, balance, and renewal to keep going.


But what happens when you’ve rested, you’re ready to move, and then suddenly—you face a new challenge? The road ahead becomes slippery, muddy, or even blocked. That’s what we’ll explore today.


PART 7: WHEN THE ROAD GETS TOUGH—ADAPTING TO LIFE’S CHALLENGES


THE STORY: MY LANDLADY’S SON MEETS A STRANDED FRIEND

Not long after my landlady’s son had his car jumpstarted (as we discussed in Part 5), another situation happened.

One evening, after heavy rain, the streets became muddy, and some cars got stuck. As my landlady’s son tried to drive out, he noticed another young man from the neighborhood whose car was completely stuck in the mud. No matter how hard he pressed the accelerator, his tires just kept spinning.

Seeing the struggle, my landlady’s son decided to stop and help. He knew what it felt like to be stranded, and this time, he was in a position to assist someone else.

After a few attempts, they found a way to push the car onto drier ground. The young man, relieved, said: “I didn’t realize how much I needed help until you stopped for me.”

LIFE LESSONS FROM THIS STORY

1️⃣ When You Overcome, Help Others – My landlady’s son once needed help with his own car. Now, he had a chance to help someone else. In life, when God lifts us, we should be quick to lift others too. (“Strengthen your brethren.” – Luke 22:32)


2️⃣ We All Need Help at Some Point – No matter how strong or prepared we think we are, life has a way of humbling us. There will be times when we get stuck and need someone else to pull us out. (“Two are better than one, for if one falls, the other will lift him up.” – Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)


3️⃣ Recognizing When to Accept Help – The stranded driver kept pressing the accelerator, thinking he could fix it alone. Sometimes, pride keeps us from accepting the right help at the right time. (“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” – James 4:6)


 WAYS TO APPLY THIS MESSAGE


✔ Be Available to Help Others – If someone is struggling in an area where you've gained strength, be a helper, not just a bystander.


✔ Recognize When You Need Help – Sometimes, pushing harder isn't the solution—you need to ask for assistance.


✔ Build Stronger Connections – Just like cars need strong tires for muddy roads, we need strong relationships to survive life’s challenges. (“A friend loves at all times.” – Proverbs 17:17)


REFLECTION:

Are you ignoring someone who needs your help?

Have you been trying to push through a struggle alone instead of seeking support?

Who in your life has helped you when you were stuck, and have you shown gratitude?


PRAYER:

Lord, help me recognize when I need support and when I am in a position to help others. Teach me to be humble in receiving and generous in giving. Let me be a divine connection to someone in need. Amen.
