CAN GOD TRUST YOU IN YOUR WAITING SEASON? PART 4: WHEN OTHERS ARE MOVING AHEAD OF YOU
CAN GOD TRUST YOU IN YOUR WAITING SEASON?
GENESIS 39:9 (NKJV)
“How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”
In Part 2, we explored Hannah's emotional struggles and learned that waiting can bring pain, discouragement, and the temptation to compare ourselves with others.
We discovered that we can bring our pain honestly before God without allowing disappointment to turn into bitterness.
The key lesson was this: Your waiting season may test your heart, but you can still choose to remain faithful to God.
But what happens when waiting becomes so difficult that you begin looking for shortcuts? What happens when the opportunity you desire appears to be available, but obtaining it requires you to compromise your convictions?
This brings us to Part 3.
Have you ever wanted something so badly that you began considering options you would never have considered before?
When employment delays, dishonesty may begin to look attractive.
When marriage delays, you may be tempted to compromise your convictions just to keep a relationship.
When financial pressure increases, you may begin considering questionable ways of making money.
When recognition delays, you may be tempted to manipulate people to get noticed.
The danger is that when we become desperate for the outcome, we may stop paying attention to the path we are taking to reach it.
Joseph's experience teaches us an important lesson about maintaining integrity when life does not go as planned.
📖 READ: GENESIS 39:7–9
Joseph had been betrayed by his brothers and sold into slavery. He was far from home, living in a foreign land under circumstances he had not chosen. Then Potiphar's wife attempted to seduce him.
Joseph could have used his painful circumstances as an excuse to do whatever pleased him. Instead, he refused and recognised that yielding to her would be a sin against God.
Notice something important: Joseph did not allow the wrong done to him to become a reason for doing wrong himself.
Perhaps life has disappointed you. Perhaps you feel that you deserve a break after years of struggle. But disappointment does not make dishonesty acceptable, and desperation does not make disobedience right.
Do not allow the pain of waiting to become an excuse for compromising your convictions.
Reflection: Have your present struggles made you consider doing something you once knew was wrong?
📖 READ: MATTHEW 4:1–10
During the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness, Satan offered Him alternatives that challenged His obedience to the Father.
Jesus refused to take a path that contradicted God's will. This reminds us that an opportunity should not be judged by its attractiveness alone. We must also consider whether the way we pursue it aligns with God's Word.
A job opportunity is not worth obtaining through fraud.
A relationship is not worth keeping by abandoning your convictions.
A promotion is not worth securing through the deliberate destruction of another person.
The fact that an opportunity can solve your problem does not automatically make it the right choice.
Pray for discernment, seek wise counsel, and examine the consequences of your decisions.
Reflection: Are you evaluating your opportunities by God's principles or merely by what you hope to gain?
📖 READ: GENESIS 39:10–12
Joseph repeatedly resisted Potiphar's wife's advances. Eventually, he fled when she grabbed his garment.
His refusal cost him dearly. He was falsely accused and imprisoned.
This part of Joseph's story is particularly challenging because doing the right thing did not immediately improve his circumstances.
Sometimes, we assume that if we obey God, everything should work out quickly. Joseph's experience shows that obedience does not guarantee immediate comfort or protection from injustice.
Nevertheless, Joseph did not abandon his convictions to escape his difficulties.
There may be moments when integrity costs you an opportunity, a relationship, or the approval of others.
But remember: it is better to face the consequences of doing what is right than to obtain what you want by deliberately doing what is wrong.
Reflection: Will you maintain your integrity even when doing the right thing appears to put you at a disadvantage?
The longer you wait, the more tempting shortcuts may become. But your desire for a breakthrough must not become greater than your commitment to living according to God's Word.
Joseph teaches us that difficult circumstances do not excuse compromise.
You may be waiting for employment, marriage, financial stability, or an opportunity to fulfil your calling. Continue taking responsible steps towards your goals, but do not sacrifice your integrity to get there.
God is not asking you to obtain your desired future at the expense of the character you are called to demonstrate today.
Heavenly Father, strengthen me to resist temptation and protect my integrity. Give me wisdom to recognise wrong paths, courage to reject compromise, and patience to pursue what is right. May my decisions honour You, even when waiting becomes difficult. In Jesus' name, Amen.
If obtaining what you desire requires you to compromise your convictions, will you choose the shortcut or remain faithful to God?
CAN YOU CELEBRATE OTHERS WHILE YOU ARE STILL WAITING?
It is painful when people around you receive the very things you have been praying for. How do you celebrate their testimonies without allowing comparison, jealousy, or disappointment to steal your peace?
In Part 4, we will discover how to remain focused on our own walk with God while learning to rejoice with others.
God is speaking, are you listening?
