THE REDEMPTIVE POWER OF GOD: ELISHA AND THE WIDOW'S JAR OF OIL PART 5: THE DISCIPLINE OF THE SECRET PLACE — WHEN MIRACLES REQUIRE CLOSED DOORS 2 KINGS 4:4-5 In Part 4, we learned that miracles often involve movement, obedience, and action. The widow was instructed to go out, borrow vessels, and gather what was needed. We saw that God’s instructions often require participation, and that obedience is a key that unlocks divine provision. Now the story moves from the outside world into the inside space of encounter. After the vessels were gathered, something very significant happens in the process of the miracle. The next instruction is not about movement—but about isolation. God begins to shift the widow from public obedience to private encounter. In 2 Kings 4:4-5, Elisha gives a new instruction: “ Go in and shut the door behind you and your sons … ” This moment is deeply spiritual. Before the oil flows, the door must be closed. This teaches us that some dimensions of God’s power are ...

HOBAB: PARTNERSHIP, COLLABORATION, AND GUIDE FOR THE JOURNEY PART 7: SHARED BLESSINGS, SHARED JOURNEY Numbers 10:29-32 Moses said to Hobab, the son of Reuel the Midianite, his father-in-law, “We are journeying to the place the Lord promised to give us. Come with us, and we will treat you well, for the Lord has spoken good concerning Israel.” But Hobab replied, “I will not go, but return to my own land and family.” Then Moses said, “Please do not leave us. You know how we are to camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes. And if you go with us, whatever good the Lord does to us, we will do to you.” RECAP OF PART 6:Recognizing the Compass in Others We explored the importance of Recognizing the Compass in Others. Hobab’s insight was more than optional—it was essential. Moses saw in him a guide, a seer for the journey. We learned that divine help sometimes comes in human form, and we must learn to honor it. Moses didn’t just invite Hobab to guide—they were to share in the blessings to...

You know how we are to camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes. And if you go with us, whatever good the Lord does to us, we will do to you.” RECAP OF PART 5: The Power of Persuasion We discovered the Power of Persuasion. Moses didn’t take Hobab’s “ no ” as final—he asked again. His humility and vision-driven appeal showed that asking again, when led by God, can change everything. We were reminded to value persistence and grace-filled conversations. Some people are more than company on the journey—they’re compasses . Hobab wa...

You know how we are to camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes. And if you go with us, whatever good the Lord does to us, we will do to you.” RECAP OF PART 4:When They Say No Last time, we learned a powerful truth: rejection doesn't stop the mission. Even when Hobab declined Moses’ invitation, the journey wasn’t over. We were encouraged to trust God’s plan and move forward, even when people walk away. Their “ no”  doesn’t cancel God’s “ yes .” After Hobab declined, Moses didn’t get offended—he persisted. He saw the value Hobab coul...

HOBAB: PARTNERSHIP, COLLABORATION, AND GUIDE FOR THE JOURNEY PART 4: WHEN THEY SAY NO! Numbers 10:29-32 Moses said to Hobab, the son of Reuel the Midianite, his father-in-law, “We are journeying to the place the Lord promised to give us. You know how we are to camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes. And if you go with us, whatever good the Lord does to us, we will  do to you.” RECAP OF PART 3: Gentle Decline or a Divine Delay? Previously, we explored how Moses’ invitation to Hobab reflected deep trust in God's promises. Moses wasn’t just inviting Hobab to a trip—he was inviting him into destiny. We were challenged to trust God’s Word and share His promises with others, even when the journey seems uncertain. We often assume that when God sends us people, they’ll always s...

You know how we are to camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes. And if you go with us, whatever good the Lord does to us, we will do  to you.” Recap of Part 2: Wisdom Needs a Willing Guide In Part 2, we saw Moses' persistence in asking Hobab to stay and serve as a guide, even after his initial rejection. It taught us that wisdom and experience, though human, are often God-sent tools. We were reminded that humility allows us to embrace both divine guidance and practical mentorship. Rejection doesn’t always mean rebellion...

You know how we are to camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes. And if you go with us, whatever good the Lord does to us, we will do to you.” RECAP OF PART 1 In part 1, we explored how Moses invited Hobab to join the journey, showing us the importance of valuing partnership and collaboration in fulfilling God’s purposes. We learned that no one is called to walk alone and that God often brings people into our lives to guide, support, and sharpen us on our journey. When Hobab declined Moses’ invitation, it could have ended there. Bu...

HOBAB: PARTNERSHIP, COLLABORATION, AND GUIDE FOR THE JOURNEY  PART 1: THE POWER OF STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS Numbers 10:29-32 Moses said to Hobab, the son of Reuel the Midianite, his father-in-law, “We are journeying to the place the Lord promised to give us. Come with us, and we will treat you well, for the Lord has spoken good concerning Israel.” But Hobab replied, “I will not go, but return to my own land and family.” Then Moses said, “Please do not leave us. You know how we are to camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes. And if you go with us, whatever good the Lord does to us, we will do to you.” Every journey, especially one ordained by God, is filled with twists, turns, deserts, and divine appointments. When Moses invited Hobab—his brother-in-law—to join Israel’s journey, he wasn’t just asking for company. He was acknowledging a principle we often overlook: even with God leading, we still need the right people beside us. Strategic partnerships are not signs of weakness—...
