HE ENVOYS OF BABYLON: PROTECTING YOUR GOD-GIVEN TREASURES SERIES INTRODUCTION

THE ENVOYS OF BABYLON: PROTECTING YOUR GOD-GIVEN TREASURES

SERIES INTRODUCTION

Isaiah 39:1-8

Every believer will experience two kinds of visitations in life: visitations from God and visitations from the world. While divine visitations are designed to strengthen, promote, and establish us in God's purpose, worldly visitations often come to test our discernment, stewardship, and spiritual maturity.

Isaiah 39 records one of the most overlooked yet significant moments in the life of King Hezekiah. This was a man who had experienced remarkable victories. God had healed him from a terminal illness, extended his life, and delivered Jerusalem from powerful enemies. Yet after these victories came a different kind of test—not through war, famine, or persecution, but through visitors.

The king of Babylon sent envoys to Hezekiah. On the surface, these visitors appeared friendly, respectful, and genuinely interested in his welfare. However, behind their smiles stood a system that would eventually become Judah's captor.

Without discernment, Hezekiah opened his treasury, his armory, his storehouses, and everything under his authority to these Babylonian visitors. Nothing was hidden from them.

What appeared to be a harmless visit became a prophetic doorway to future captivity.

This story teaches us a powerful lesson: not everyone who enters your life comes to celebrate your success. Some come to study your strengths. Some come to observe your weaknesses. Some come to gather information. Others come as representatives of systems that seek to gain access to what God has entrusted to you.

Babylon in Scripture is more than a geographical location. It represents the spirit of pride, worldly influence, self-exaltation, compromise, materialism, and rebellion against God. From the Tower of Babel in Genesis to Mystery Babylon in Revelation, Babylon symbolizes a system that seeks to draw people away from complete dependence on God.

The envoys of Babylon are still active today.

  • They may come through relationships.
  • They may come through flattery.
  • They may come through social media.
  • They may come through business opportunities.
  • They may come through friendships.
  • They may come through conversations that seem harmless on the surface.

The question is not whether Babylon will send envoys. The question is whether we possess enough spiritual discernment to recognize them when they arrive.

Throughout this series, we will explore the treasures God entrusts to His people and learn how to guard them from pride, compromise, unnecessary exposure, and spiritual vulnerability. We will discover the significance of Hezekiah's treasure house, silver, gold, spices, precious oil, and armory, and how these represent valuable spiritual realities in the life of every believer.

We will also examine the dangers of misplaced trust, the importance of discernment, the warnings of the Holy Spirit, and the consequences of exposing sacred things to worldly systems.

As we begin this journey, remember that the greatest attacks against believers do not always come through open warfare. Sometimes they come disguised as admiration, opportunity, curiosity, friendship, and applause.

May the Lord grant us wisdom to recognize the envoys of Babylon and courage to guard the treasures He has placed in our care.

Reflection

What treasures has God entrusted to you that require greater protection and stewardship?

Are there influences in your life that appear harmless but may be drawing your heart away from complete dependence on God?

Prayer

Lord, grant us spiritual discernment in a world filled with competing voices and influences. Help us to guard every treasure You have entrusted to us and to walk in humility, wisdom, and dependence upon You. May we recognize the subtle workings of Babylon and remain faithful to Your purposes. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Part 1: The Visit Of Babylon — Not Every Visitor Is Sent By God

In the next episode, we will examine who the Babylonian envoys were, what they represented, and why believers must develop spiritual discernment. We will discover that not every open door is from God, not every admirer is a friend, and not every visitor comes with pure intentions.

God is speaking, are you listening?
